"We need to fight 'em in Iraq so we don't have to fight them here at home"
I guess that argument is no longer operable.

Make no mistake about it, and I guess I disagree with some people here at DU on this, but Al Qaeda is real, they're evil and they want to kill people. Is our foreign policy flawed to a point that it makes the terrorist threat worse? I believe it is, but that does not change, nor does it excuse, terrorist thuggery as we have seen this morning.

There is actually a perfectly good non-ideological argument in opposition to the Iraq war. An argument that says the Iraq war has not only needlessly stirred up the hatred of the world (indeed, much of the Islamic world), but that it has made the terrorist threat worse by draining resources from the fight against Al Qaeda (who had virtually no presence in Iraq before the war), and made it easier for them to recruit angry young men.

It's time to get our boys out of Iraq NOW and fight a real war on terror against the people who actually attacked us, Spain and Britain.

Prayers to the people of the UK.

1. Only Bush says that, I don't think I've ever heard Tony Blair....
...make that claim except maybe here in the U.S. So what is British PM George Galloway saying about this wave of attacks on his country?

2. The War on Terror
never was about fighting terror, it was just a convenient excuse to do a smash and grab raid on Iraq. If they were so keen to fight terror they would have stopped 9/11 in the first place.

(Apart from that, I agree with you).

3. There were so many other things that could have been done
about AQ; no one wants to ignore them.

We are like someone who has a health problem and needs surgery, but insists that the World go under the knife.
