Why is no one in the news discussing link of G8 and attacks?
Wouldn't that be a plausible theory? I've heard people say this may be about the 2012 Olympics, they hate our freedoms, etc. etc. but NO ONE in the American press seems to think the G8 has ANYTHING to do with this! Are they daft? Am I missing something?

Ed Schulz hasn't even mentioned it and has been talking about terror now for the past half hour. Yes, we need to have a real homeland security. Yes, we need National Guard here to protect the people. Yes, we need to secure our borders. Yes, we need to inspect all cargo containers and have good security at airports and train terminals. We need to protect ourselves.

But haven't the press considered that maybe this has something, just a little smidge of something, to do with our policies and the fact that the War Criminal is at the G8 and doesn't want to play nicely with others?

7. I mean, we all see it. It's a logical conclusion.
But the media won't talk about it. Ed Schulz is now saying this isn't George Bush's fault. He feels it's a failure of the whole elected government, but refuses to sling any mud at Bush or anyone else involved.

14. I agree - it's a failure of our media
to talk about things seriously. Esp. anything that might reflect badly on corporations or capitalism or any of that.

4. Are you kidding?
The BBC and ITN coverage talks of little else. Blair said it himself.

12. Yeah. I saw it on the BBC. But what about here?
There is nothing. CNN, any American source on the net, and even Air America. Nothing. Oh. I forget. The Beeb is a real news agency for the most part.

Rush-Hour Strike Wounds up to 1,000; Blair Sees G-8 Link
By Sarah Lyall
The New York Times

Thursday 07 July 2005

London - In the morning rush today, London was struck by a series of four apparently coordinated terrorist explosions in subways and buses, which killed at least 33 people and wounded as many as 1,000 others. The explosions ripped apart several subway trains and at least one double-decker bus and caused officials to close and evacuate the entire subway system.

Witnesses reported seeing dozens of people stumbling out of subway stations in a light rain, coughing, and black with soot. Dozens more were being loaded into ambulances on stretchers and taken to hospitals around the city.

Police officials said they did not know whether the attacks had been the work of suicide bombers or the result of packages left on trains and buses. No arrests have been made.

The attacks were "deliberately designed to kill and injure innocent members of the public," Brian Paddick, London's assistant police commissioner said in a news conference. Mr. Paddick said four explosive devices had been used, but that he had no additional information on the devices. Authorities said they had received no warnings before the explosions occurred and that they had not received directly any claim of responsibility afterward. An Al Qaeda group posted a statement on a Web site claiming responsibility.

"We are keeping an open mind as to who the perpetrators might be," Mr. Paddick said.

10. My thought exactly.
Why tie this to recent events? I am sure a well planned operation likes this takes months of preparation.

I am actually suspecting that they may have *assumed* the G8 was in London when they heard it was held in the UK.

17. When was the Scotland location announced?
Obviously, this attack took some time to plan so your theory holds some water that they just assumed it would be in London. Or they just wanted to attack close to home for Blair.

25. It appears to be early June. Hmmm
And isn't it true that they wait until the last moment announcing exact G8 locations so that protestors won't have too much of a head start?

13. I don't watch the news.
I assumed that, if it really was terrorists who did this, it was to get attention during the G-8 meeting. What else? The Olympics theory is hogwash as is the hating our freedoms idea. The G-8 meeting is the obvious reason for the attacks. Do the reporters actually read the news? Or do they just hack it out? Your post amazes me.

26. Whoever did this is a terrorist by definition. They purposely
struck civiian targets to make a political point.

But who did it could be anyone, from radical Islamists to Multinational Corporations and anyone else.

G8 is a possibility, but until we know who actually committed the crime we can't really be sure of much.

Everything is speculation at this point.

19. I don't know if you have noticed, but...
the US media isn't the smartest kids on the block. They are pretty faces that read scripts to tell us what our opinions should be. No one has given them a script that tells them to related it to G8 yet.

20. Please don't remind me how dense they really are
It's just too depressing. What is maddening is that they will drum up so new appeal to bomb and kill someone else and the terrorists will remain unpunished.

And we will be less safe for it.

21. I don't get the connection
The bombing is going to derail any discussion of anything other than terrorism, like poverty or global warming. Blair was actuallly leaning away from Bush on both of these issues. Who is benefitting from this? Al Queda? Iraq? Bin Laden? If G-8 is the reason for the attack then Exxon is responsible.

23. You might not be far from the truth.
I dunno...I hate following the MIHOP stuff, but there are times I start to wonder what is really going on here. Is our security and that of the Brits really so bad that they couldn't see this coming? Or are the terrorists so good that they escape detection at every turn.
