The War on Terror, War on Hunger, War on Drugs, etc., can never be won |
|
By military might. Have we learned nothing from history? The only possible remedy is to get to the underlying causes of the "wars" on poverty, lack of education, and health issues. The neocon military solution can never bring peace and cooperation. Democracy ann6t by definition be imposed by the barrel of a gun.
We need new politicians with a new perspective. The current crop, with a couple of exceptions are all peas in the same pod.
We need to create a new paradigm.

1. The old paradigm enriches corporations so it will be around for |
|
awhile longer. The military industrial complex is a monster that demands feeding from time to time.

2. exactly, but, corporate power is hard to topple. Many will have |
|
to die before they give up power. The people will have to pay more attention. I think things will change once the oil begins to run out. Then, our war machine will come to a halt. Our Corporations will come to a grind, unless, we find a kinder way of being and living.

3. I absolutely agree with you on this !!! |

The "War on Terrorism" will be won with food, medicine, housing, education, and jobs ~~ bombs & bullets will not win it, they will only make it worse.

4. Soo true, struggles can be overcome |
|
but not when treated as wars, or even labelled as such.
First, a serious commitment needs to be made. Secondly, honest studies need to be made.
We need to tackle world problems the way we go about dealing with Mother Nature (or did before dim son called it all junk science).
It's like the recent attention to serial pedophiles. Most molestors were molested themselves. We need to identify the abused before they become abusers themselves.

5. So why do so many accept the concept of the "War on Terror? |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 09:11 PM by kohodog
It is semantically and practically a ridiculous concept. There can be no "war on terror". There is a war against people our leaders want to subjugate for their warped ideas of empire and how they want the world to be Like any bully they start with the weakest (Hussein with a depleted army), and from there they will twist the arm of others or bring out the bombs.
How has the concept of a winnable "war on terror" been able to gain credence and take root with so little questioning?

and "American specialness". In America, peace and humilty have been replaced by greed and pride. We are so used to being the only super power we've turned into bullies. Very distressing for people who take Christ's words to heart.

8. The moral value judgement |
|
The frame of war is to make an intense, hateful and, too often, deceptive value judgement about your opponent, that healing is impossible.
Drugs are evil therefore drugs users are evil terror is evil therefore terror users are evil Hunger is evil therefore hungry persons are evil
And we can't get lost from the hipocrisy that inside each one of us is a little bit drugs user, and a little bit terror user and a little bit hungry person. It comes with being human. The totality of the human individiual is all things, a myriad complexity, and the concept of waging war on yourself is simply absurd and philosophically impossible.
It is only possible in a cancer culture that kills itself rather than evolve or change. We DO need to create a new paradigm. It must engage open discussion and end the wars, all of them, and every single trace of the militarism that has perverted our culture with the acceptance of war as a socially moral behaviour.

I'm just surprised that there is so much acceptance of the concept they are promoting. Orwell was indeed prescient.
