"I was in Baghdad, it was fine. It was pretty ok"
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 09:39 PM by Emerson
This is what a cspan "I'm with bush all the way" caller said. He said he was a soldier that was in Baghdad and VERY casually and almost enthusiastically said "It was fine. It was pretty ok" when he was asked how it was.

Am I right to suspect the caller was never actually in Baghdad?

2. He probably commanded a Xerox copier machine
deep in the bowels of Centcom HQ. Rarely peeped over the cyclone fencing at the land beyond the fortified Green Zone.

9. Might see the Green Zone if Tampa has a bar by that name...
"Headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) is one of nine Unified Combatant Commands assigned operational control of U.S. combat forces"

http://www.centcom.mil/aboutus/centcom.htm

That always cracked me up...a bunch of the "broad coalition" got credit on shrub's list for being partners when their contribution was sending a handful of guys to Tampa. :eyes:

3. A few possibilities
a.) He was never in Baghdad, or Iraq for that matter

b.) He was in Baghdad immediately after the invasion

c.) He was in Baghdad, but only in the US occupation fort, aka "Green Zone"

Those are the possibilities I can see. The most likely thing is that he was making it all up. Yeah, that sounds about right.

4. I heard him this morning also.

5. It made me wonder
How many "we should support bush. I was in Iraq..." callers (and those who write on the net) ever served a day. So easy for an anonymous right winger to claim to have been in iraq and talk about how great it was.

7. A lot of times the moderator will ask them what unit were they in
or what was his position. Sometimes they stumble and get busted.

8. Always ask what Unit, what MOS, who was their commander, etc
The posers will quickly be identified if you ask them some simple questions about by in the Army or Marines.

10. My cousin was in Iraq. It was not "O.K.".
Thankfully, he's now back in Germany and will be out of the military altogether in a year or so. He wasn't injured, but was under attack on a weekly basis. His fiancee (now wife) was on a recon mission that took a mortar round. She lost most of her hearing, but only for a few weeks...no permanent loss.

I have no doubt that there are a few soldiers in Iraq that either see little action or are such rabid "patriots" that they enjoy "defending America". All I've heard personally are negative reports.
