Without A Doubt The Most Contradictory Statement I Have Ever Heard..... |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 03:34 PM by TheWatcher
"This Congress has often been called a slow and cumbersome beast, but I think you can see how fast this Congress is prepared to move when 50 million Americans are angry," said bill sponsor Rep. Billy Tauzin in debate on the House floor.
Oh,MY....Where would I even begin....
But I guess by asking where was this swift and urgent sense of justice when the ENTIRE WORLD angirly OPPOSED us INVADING A DEFENSELESS NATION WHO WASN'T A THREAT TO ANYONE BASED ON LIES FOR POLITICAL AND FISCAL GAIN, would be a pretty good start.....
But hey, at least you won't be getting those annoying telemarketing calls during dinnertime anymore..... :)

1. Congress Was There Doing Their Jobs |

Foreigners don't vote in House and Senate races. Americans do. Americans got all worked up by the administration; Bush set the perfect ball, Congress spiked it.
I agree it's galling that there can be such a difference in action on something as major as war and as minor as telemarketing, but ultimately you can understand Congress a lot better by thinking of it as what it is: A body of people who respond to the passions of those who give them their jobs.

Congress most assuredly does NOT respond to the "passions of those who give them their jobs." Congress responds to the passions of those responsible for the funding for getting or maintaining their jobs, in other words, the big financial donors such as corporations, big business, insurance companies, energy companies, etc., etc.
That's why they won't listen to over fifty years of demands for changes in the health care system (universal health care, better access), or cleaning up pollution through regulation of industries, etc., etc., etc., but, as soon as doctors and insurance companies start screaming about malpractice rates, they're scrambling to strip our rights to economic damages from malpractice.
Or as soon as industries start screaming that they can't afford to implement anti-pollution controls, policies, etc., they scramble to gut environmental protections and regulations and to hell with those millions who are angry about their dirty air and water!

3. your are quite correct. |

the most frustrating aspect of modern american politic. after being elected by 'the people' our reps then go on to do the bidding of corporations and industries in ways the adverse affect the people that elected them.
and some wonder why a progressive/pupulist third party has so much appeal?
