DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS!!

"COMMENTARY
In Praise of E-Voting Machines

By Sonia Arrison
TechNewsWorld

Fears that the machines will cause problems help to ensure proper precautions, but these fears can be overblown. Unlike paper ballots, in the history of DREs, no one has found any evidence of the machines being used for fraudulent purposes. Most businesses and government departments have upgraded their systems using new technology, so it only makes sense to update America's voting process as well."

Ah gee wizz. . .could it be that no one has found any evidence because the damned machines were produced to not create any evidence?

New technology my ass. How's about some improved nonriggable technology.

This type of propaganda drives me bonkers.

Now we're Luddites for wanting fair elections untainted by Diebold? Kiss my ASS, Sonia.

How much money did YOU get from Diebold for trumpeting this crap?

3. Well, I tried...
Here's my LTTE:

Sonia, your naivete is amazing. Your quote that "no one has found any evidence of the machines being used for fraudulent purposes" does not diminish the very real fact that DRE's are exceedingly easy to hack and perform fraud with. As a programmer, I understand that, and I want verification that my vote was recorded correctly just as I demand a verification that my ATM transaction is recorded correctly. Audio verification is indeed the best way and hardest to hack of any options, but NONE of the current DRE vendors offer that solution. Your answer is to ignore that reality and call those who advocate voter verifiable voting Luddites. Your name calling is inappropriate as is your minimization of the very real problems with the current crop of DREs. Perhaps in the future, you will research your article adequately and point out the real situation instead of just denigrating those who disagree with you.

4. Here's my letter:
I am a technological semi-literate, but even with one programming course taken over 20 years ago, I can think of two algorithms for cheating that would be undectable without independent examination of the software both before and after voting--something that the voting machine companies will not allow. For someone writing for a tech-oriented website, Ms. Arrison is remarkably naive about the potential for mischief with voting machines.

5. It's not the technology we distrust, it is the humans that
created, and operate the machines. The voting machine companies brought this scrutiny on themselves by being belligerent, openly partisan, and evasive. The more the voting machine companies resist openness, the more suspect they become.

"THE BIG FIX 2004"
How to Fix a Presidential Election

An investigation into the surprisingly-sordid history of America’s “election services industry” has revealed that executives and owners of the two largest companies, E S & S and Sequoia Pacific, have been convicted of bribery and suborning public officials in more than a dozen states.
