Flowers for Andy
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 01:51 PM by Midlodemocrat
Skinner has given me permission to post this. I have set up a PayPal account for donations in case anyone would like to contribute for flowers from all of us here at DU.

The email is FlowersforAndy@cs.com

Paypal.com

As this is such a caring, wonderful community, any leftover monies will go to a charity in Andy's name. If you have a suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks.

And, please keep this kicked.

91. Thanks for this guys...
You all have been incredible. In every way.

On behalf of VelvetRevolution.us (Andy was one of our original advisors to the "Divestiture for Democracy" campaign, his contribution was incredibly key to many aspects) I can tell you that his solid guidance and advice and encouragement is already missed tremendously. It'll be very difficult, if even possible, to ever replace. But we *will* fight on as I know he wanted.

His friendship, however, can never be replaced.

I've stopped countless times in my tracks over the last several days to convince myself that his loss is actually real. It is not easy to believe or understand. Too many tears. I loved him from the get-go and I can't even tell you why.

FWIW, we were able to put together a quick tribute to Andy in the last half hour of last weekend's BRAD SHOW. If you missed it, it's now at http://www.BradShow.com in the archives. Last half hour of the 7/9/05 show.

Peace.

Is there an address I can send some cash to? Even if it goes to charity in Andy's name rather than flowers, I would like to contribute in honor of Andy.

39. I agree
Since Andy did not have medical insurance, I would expect that he also did not have life insurance. There may be "final expenses" that his loved ones will need help with.

If that is not the case, then I am in favor of a choice of a contribution for flowers or a donation to charity in his name

If I recall it right, he said, "If anything should happen to me........"

VERIFIED VOTING! VERIFIED VOTING!! It was his work, his passion and it should be carried on. An important issue to Andy, to each one of us. Monies should go to that in his name.

Just my thoughts.

I know some folks are opposed to flowers as fleeting, but speaking as someone who has lost a great many family members in the last few years, I took great comfort in the flowers.

People also sent donations for my mom and dad to the social justice committee at our church and for my SIL to Memorial Sloan Kettering, but the flowers...I don't know....walking into that room all those times and seeing the outpouring of good wishes and condolences really does lift the spirit, if only for a bit.

43. After reading the last email from Andy
that was posted at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4051649

Maybe a donation to the velvet revolution in lieu of flowers may also be appropriate to honor Andy and continue his fight here.

Of course if both can be done all the better, altho I bet Andy would love to see as much as possible fund his legacy.

There is approximately $200 in the flower fund for Andy so far. Claudiajean has posted on the homepage that they are overwhelmed with flowers, but looking for some donations to defray the costs of the service.

I am going to pass on the money to her for this purpose. If anyone who has already donated objects, I will refund your money, just PM me.

80. Hey, question here!
*waving hands*

Hi and thanks for doing so much--minor point: all the flowers they have now will be dead by Saturday. Is Claudiajean going to handle the funds (for an arrangement--someone said that it would mean a lot Andy's mom & I didn't want that to get lost in the shuffle) and donate the rest toward the service/charity/whatever they decide?

(Not wanting to throw a monkey wrench in the works, just wanting to make sure the bases are covered!)

Thanks!

81. Claudiajean has indicated that perhaps our
donation could go towards a lovely wreath or something similar. I indicated that I would forward the monies collected for whatever the family chose, and if there was anything left over, I would include a screen shot of the PayPal account and overnight a check to the family.

Thanks, everyone.

73. Midlodemocrat ...
you said you were passing on the money Claudiajean to defray the costs of the service. So does that mean we should donate to Claudiajean or are you still doing flowers?

Also, is there a snail-mail address or some other way to donate? (Either with you or Claudiajean) I really hate PayPal.

Sorry for all the questions ... this is the first chance I had to get on the Internet today and I'm trying to catch up with all the info. It's a little hard to keep track of it all. It's so nice that everyone's pulling together for Andy and his family.
