Did anyone hear about the washing of Mount Rushmore?
Apparently it is to be done with 200 degree high pressure water.
I saw this on FAUX (yes, I showered after) while flicking through the channels last night. I stopped on the story because it was interesting.
Then the "news" team said it was being funded by a GERMAN COMPANY because the US COULD NOT AFFORD IT !!!

At which point the FAUX "news" team began to comment on the part that the US COULD NOT AFFORD IT with comments like
"how weird is that?"
"Ridiculous"
etc...

Nobody mentioned how deep in debt this country is... so deep in debt that WE CAN'T AFFORD UPKEEP ON OUR OWN MONUMENTS!

I murmured something about the trillions of dollars we are in debt and switched the channel.

1. Here's some of it...

War profiteering is bad. Stealing is worse.

- Once again a British article.

Why do I have the feeling that they are going to try and use this and chisel **'s face out of George Washington's?

3. Cnn covered it from a different angle this morning
They said this company volunteered to do it, for free. They also said that this is the 80th "statue" that they have cleaned for free around the world. There was no mention of anybody not being able to afford anything, nor anyone asking for payment for it and being refused.

12. Sounds like they are doing it for PR reasons
Good business for them. (they can say they cleaned Mt Rushmore...excellent credentials etc)

Good for US taxpayers

If we can fire off $10 million dollars missle like party poppers, then of course we can afford a million dollar cleaning job.

4. NPR covered it two days ago
they interviewed one of the cleaners, asked what it was like to be that close to the faces, how they do the work, what kind of damage there is, etc. Very neat stuff.

The cleaning starts next week, and is scheduled to go for about a month. The monument will remain open to visitors.

10. This reminds me of a classic Don Martin cartoon....
Actually he had two about Mount Rushmore.

One was a Gov't barber flying in a helicopter with a giant pair of sissors to clip a, "nose hair", branch growing out of Washingtons nostril and the other was a bunch of workmen with a giant Q-Tip cleaning out Lincolns ear. :)
