first off, you're confusing the experiment-- which was carried out bordering on unethically, if I remember right.

The experiment was to see if a young monkey would prefer a "mother" made of terry cloth but offered nothing else or a "mother" made of steel wires that the monkey could get milk from. The monkey chose the terry cloth doll, but went on to grow up with some observed psychological weirdness, such as being socially akward and seemingly not knowing how to mate or raise children of its own.

2. I Am Well Acquainted With The Experiment And Its Ethics Problems

I was a psych major.

I was spoon fed Harry Harlow and his sad, sad little monkeys. I intentionally chose an image for subject 1 that did NOT offer the bottle (note the empty bracket).

The image is the metaphor not the experiment. There is no variable that differs in these two images but the suface of each "subject".

Michael Moore went to the Republican and Democratic governors conventions to see which one he could get more hugs at? Not only did the Democratic governors give him by far more but my then Republican governor William Weld tried to call security on him.
