Has anyone seen or heard anything about how 7-7 may affect Bush's ratings |
|
regarding how he is "handling terrorism"?
I'm wondering if this will make people think he is doing the right thing or if it will make people even more weary of the whole endeavor.

times he says it.
Fuckers, and with confiedence in the media at an all time low, I doubt that the media will be able to hype him effectively. You can't hype if no one is listening.

6. I think commander-in-chief fatigue is setting in. |

It use to be that when you saw the 24th Cavalry charging over the hill crest, it meant there was an end to the movie in sight, but now all we have to look forward to is bad sequels.

7. I hope so. I'm really trying to hope so. |

But, like I say, I'm just not that confident in my fellow Americans anymore.

5. So, Rush isn't pounding home the idea that this is why we're in Iraq? |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 04:05 PM by Iris
As opposed to the idea that this is because we're in Iraq, which I would hope people could see for themselves, but I've pretty much given up on the average citizen actually thinking for himself.

11. I guess. But won't he just up the rhetoric and turn it into |
|
an unsuccessful attack as the result of W's great leadeship in the "war on terror"?

13. If 9-11 was LIHOP or MIHOP, it was "catastrophic success" carnage-wise |
|
From a terrorist's perspective, 9-11 set the bar very high. People's expectations adjust according to experiences. If London had happened before 9-11, what happened yesterday would have seemed horrific. And 9-11 would later have seemed horrific. With 9-11 coming first, London doesn't seem the kind of Earth-shattering event 9-11 did. Of course, if you were directly impacted by London, that's a totally different story. I'm talking only about how the rest of us perceive these events.
As was pointed out on DU yesterday, the death toll in London is known in Iraq as "Tuesday." And, as I understand it, America caused up to two hundred thousand Iraqi deaths in the first Gulf War.
Of course, if your loved one died in London yesterday, it's the worst day ever. But nearly 2,000 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq already. What happened in London yesterday caused about 50? deaths (so far). That's about 2% of 9-11. And about .02% of what America did to Iraq in Gulf War 1 (if the 200,000 death figure is correct).
All these events are sick. But, London was several orders of magnitude less deadly than some other events.
