What about John Danforth for the Court?
I know that he's incredibly conservative, but he's also incredibly consistent and clear-minded. I may disagree with him 99% of the time, but I can at least trust him to uphold the law -- which is a LOT more than I can say about a lot of the other names.

Unfortunately, he may have alienated himself with the lunatic right with his recent op-ed in the NY Times. People should read it if they haven't.

Anyway, just a thought.

1. Believe it or not
The reason it will never happen.

According to recent interviews, he supports separation of church and state and gives clear reasons to support his position. The fact is, he's not nuts enough to make Bush happy.

3. Danforth would be unacceptable to our side were it not
for the current hysterical climate. Some things are just too fucking bizarre to contemplate at times (and now is one of those times).

Without Googling I suspect he's never been a friend to Roe.

In any event, the reason Danforth withdrew from the UN post is because his wife is quite ill, so I doubt he would consider a SC appointment at this time.
