Bush, Gannon, Plame - any connection?
I'm clearly fishing here, but does anyone know if Jeff Gannon was subpoened to testify to the Plame Grand Jury? I have heard some rumors in the past that Gannon (I spent 200 unexplained days/nights in the White House) might somehow have been involved in leaking information to journalists and that the information was given to him by "his lover" none other than The Chimp himself. Wouldn't it be a hoot if it ultimately came out that Gannon was spilling his guts to Matt Cooper? And that Fitz knows this and needs Cooper to testify to it, so as to nail Bush. Sure would be a good reason for Cooper to stonewall. Sounds crazy, I know, but then again not beyond the realm of possibility. The whole Gannon thing reaks to begin with and we all know he was a WH Press Corp plant who undoubtedly had some contact with mainstream journalists.

1. Gannon wasn't around for nothing. He had a purpose

I agree. Your theory could be real.

Gannon may need to be the fall guy.

For sure he was coming to visit somebody up there.
They were willing to risk exposure to have him around.

Sex is a powerful drug.

6. The plot thickens
So I come back to my original question then? Is there a possibility that Cooper's testimony is needed to tie Gannon and Bush together? Perhaps not, but I still have a feeling that Fitz has Bush/Cheney in the cross hairs.

5. "Go ahead, Jeff."
The chimpministration used Gannon as a stooge to link Saddam and WMDs and smear Joe Wilson. From MediaMatters and a Monkey House transcript:

"Go ahead, Jeff": Talon News "reporter" Jeff Gannon is McClellan's lifeline during briefings

EXCERPT...

From the White House website's transcript of the August 9, 2004, briefing:

MR. McCLELLAN: Go ahead, Jeff.

Q: Thank you. The imam that was arrested in New York last week was discovered because his name appeared in a Rolodex in a terrorist training camp in Iraq before the war. The book was found after, by U.S. troops, but he was in Iraq before the war. Is this another piece of evidence showing the direct terror ties between Iraq and al Qaeda?

MR. McCLELLAN: One, that's an ongoing investigation. I think the questions related to those particular individuals are best directed to the Department of Justice. And so that's -- I would refer any questions about that investigation to the Department of Justice. We are continuing to wage the war on terrorism on many fronts, both abroad and at home. And I think you're seeing that through the actions that we are taking.

Q: Let me follow up with a second question. How damaging was the revelation of the deepest mole that we've ever had in al Qaeda? The publication of that man's name by The New York Times -- how damaging is that to our war on terror?

MR. McCLELLAN: I'm sorry -- which specific instance are you referring to?

Q: The New York Times published the name of Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, who was described by intelligence officials as the only deep mole we've ever had within al Qaeda.

MR. McCLELLAN: I'm not sure where it was published, first. Obviously, it was published recently -- the capture of this individual. It is important that we recognize that sometimes there are ongoing operations underway. And as we move forward on capturing or bringing to justice al Qaeda members, we need to keep that in mind. And sometimes we aren't able to go into as much detail we would like to because of those ongoing operations. And I think everybody has a responsibility to keep that in mind.

"Doesn't (former Ambassador) Joe Wilson owe the President and America an apology?"

During a July 15, 2004, press conference, McClellan again turned to Gannon following questions from reporters about the president's position on the Federal Marriage Amendment; the president's opinion of fundraising consultant Mike Rogers's campaign (detailed in a Washington Post article) to disclose the sexual orientation of gay staffers working for senators and representatives who supported the amendment; and whether Lynne Cheney's opposition to the amendment constituted the first time a vice president's wife had ever publicly opposed the president's policies. After responding, McClellan accepted questions from Gannon, who promptly shifted the focus.

From the White House transcript:

MR. McCLELLAN: Two questions a day. Go ahead, Jeff.

<...>

Q: Last Friday, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a report that shows that Ambassador Joe Wilson lied when he said his wife didn't put him up for the mission to Niger. The British inquiry into their own prewar intelligence yesterday concluded that the President's 16 words ("The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa") were "well-founded." Doesn't Joe Wilson owe the President and America an apology for his deception and his own intelligence failure?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, one, let me point out that I think those reports speak for themselves on that issue. And I think if you have questions about that, you can direct that to Mr. Wilson.

The worst? That's yet to come. Who knows what Gannon discovered behind closed doors?

7. JD...
interviewed Joseph Wilson for Talon/GOPUSA. In that interview Guckert mentioned an "internal CIA memo" where Wilson's wife Valerie supposedly suggested her husband for the mission to Niger.

I think old Jeff was blowing air out of his firm buttocks:

Plame leaked by fake news source?
by SusanG
Fri Jan 28th, 2005 at 17:30:14 PST
Did the White House dribble the Plame leak through its own fake mouthpiece news source?

Consider:

A fake news service employs a fake reporter who apparently was the only one "identified by the Washington Post as having knowledge of the memo's existence." What leaked CIA memo, you ask?  The one in which "Wilson ... suggests his wife was instrumental in his selection for the fact-finding trip to Africa."

Let's back this pony up and look at what's come out in the past week.

Media Matters for the past couple of days has been delving into the mysterious "Talon News Service" and its mysterious, oh-so-helpful shilling reporter at White House press conferences, "Jeff Gannon."

Diaries :: SusanG's diary ::

First, from Media Matters:

Talon News, a conservative company whose Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent Jeff Gannon is well-known for asking loaded pro-Republican questions at White House press briefings, appears to be more a political organization than a media outlet.

Media Matters for America recently highlighted three Gannon articles that were little more than reprints of Republican and Bush administration releases; Media Matters has also noted Gannon's role as White House press secretary Scott McClellan's lifeline and Talon editor in chief Bobby Eberle's partisan political activities. A more in-depth look at Talon,Gannon, and Eberle casts additional doubt on Talon's claim to be a media outlet and raises questions about whether Gannon should be a credentialed member of the White House press corps.

Eberle is also,as Media Matters has previously noted, president and CEO of GOPUSA,a "conservative news, information, and design company dedicated to promoting conservative ideals." Though Eberle has claimed on the September 13,2004,edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country that GOPUSA and Talon News are separate companies, they overlap heavily.

But wait! "Jeff Gannon" isn't really Jeff Gannon after all, according to Atrios:

Special Treatment for Gannon?

According to sources, Jeff Gannon's real name is not, in fact, Jeff Gannon. According to the same sources, his White House press credentials list him as "Jeff Gannon" - they let him use his pseudonym -- even though married female reporters, who use their maiden name professionally, are given credentials with their married name and aren't allowed to be credentialed under their maiden names...

And then, a little Googling reveals this, from a March 9, 2004, "Talon News" release:

Talon News has learned that one of the journalists being targeted is Jeff Gannon, Washington Bureau Chief and White House correspondent for Talon News.

According to a subsequent Talon News story by Bobby Eberle regarding the Washington Post piece, "The Washington Post cites an unnamed source who says, 'The CIA is angry about the circulation of a still-classified document to conservative news outlets.'

They point to a memo referenced in a Talon News interview of Wilson that suggests his wife was instrumental in his selection for the fact-finding trip to Africa."

Talon News was the only service identified by the Washington Post as having knowledge of the memo's existence.

So am I reading more into this than I should be? And why would "Talon News" fink its own self out about the grand jury subpoena? Has the Bush administration and its evil ways turned me into a permanent paranoiac? Does anyone want to join me in useless speculation as to what this complicated crapola means?

but I believe the memo was bogus

Correction: The memo might have been real but the content was bogus. Plame was never at this super secret spy meeting. I'm pretty sure even the CIA stated as much.
