Poll question: In your heart of hearts, who do you really think is in charge?
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 01:33 AM by undisclosedlocation
Obviously there's a degree of overlap between the various groups. If you think the answer is more than one of the above, I guess you could reply as such below and specify which.

So far resisting the urge to put on the Jeff Beck Group.

Poop on the CNP (which, come to think of it, is an outstanding idea): http://www.au.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=6949&abbr=cs_

Edit: Some guy in Flagstaff named Woody replaced by Karl Rove (which is also an oustanding idea)

EditEdit: The Bilderberg Group replaced by PNAC

1. As far as I can tell
NOBODY is in charge.

There are just a few gawkers standing around winging it, without any idea of what they are doing.

They seem to depend on old movie plots...John Wayne westerns and war stories...for their basic stance, but that's about it. The rest is ad libbed.

22. That's the most frightening conspiracy theory I've ever fucking heard.
Please- give me PNAC, Freemasons, The Catholic Church, P2, The Illuminati, Cthulu, evil canine aliens from the dog star, Sirius.. ANYTHING.

But just don't tell me NO ONE IS RUNNING THE SHOW, AT ALL!!! Noooooo! Aeeeeeeeeee!

25. I agree with you. If someone or some group were in CHARGE
then there would be someone or some group RESPONSIBLE and that is not the case. The country gets attacked despite numerous warnings, nobody's fault...they start a war they can't win based on bullshit and rosy predictions, nobody's fault.

They have people in charge of little pieces, but the let's start a war group can't tell the let's cut rich people's taxes group to put things on hold, the kiss the asses of the religous right group can't be told anything by the let's try to maintain the pretense that we respresent the majority group, etc.

30. Money
I think the 'Liburul Agenduh' could run the show as long as it proved it supported keeping huge concentrations of the nations wealth in the hands of a few. I detest this subject because if I think of it for very long I start to pine for my tin foil hat. It's like 'what is infinity?' All is plausible and impossible at the same time. It's like that quote from JFK, something about an enigma wrapped in a puzzle drenched in creamy milk chocolate and covered with a thin candy shell...I don't have good recall but... Scary! Mommy!:scared:

The structure is in charge. They're afraid to challenge the structure so it dominates them.

17. evangelicals
I really think that the evangelicals are silly dupes in this political game. The neocons are driven by short sighted greed, saw a chance to manipulate the evangelicals, and took it, and continue to take it.

someone like, oh, I don't know, the guy the Fundies love to hate...

SATAN?

Okay, just kidding. I don't believe in Satan.

But if I did, it would be pretty clear HE was in charge in Washington DC instead of a bunch of inept, corrupt, morally bankrupt individual humans.

Edit because I'm getting too tired to post tonight. And doing it anyway.

10. Ah, Rove isn't nearly suave or sophisticated enough...
He's just one of the Greater Minions.

The Big Bad is probably lurking around D.C. in the form of some handsome, debonaire lobbyist while Bush, Rove, and Co. do his dirty work.

This reminds me of the Doonesbury cartoon where Bush is at a press conference getting his answers from his "bulge" and the interviewer thinks its Karl Rove when its Cheney.

(Who knows, certainly some neocon idiot who wishes no sane person any good.)

27. a consensus of power centers
which occasionally reveals portions of it's constituency in the Bilderberg Group among other manifestations of the truly powerful. I suspect there is not much vertical organization, the goals and egos of various factions wouldn't allow it. But their common goals, power and domination, maintain the consensus.

29. Daddy Bush has been pulling the strings
all along. Who else has all the experience of the CIA and The White House and Saddam? He gets to help his former company (ok former, right) make money on the war and has the resources for the inside workings of the CIA and the White House... Plus some of his old cabinet is still in the White House....

35. Other: Lobby groups
This will be our challenge in this century. Both sides demonize the others lobby groups and call them "special interests" because it polled really ugly and it works, but we each continue to cuddle up to our own lobbies.

Historically, there have been sick SOB's on both sides. Perhaps if we can find a way to diminish the monetary power of lobbies we can begin to talk again.

Until them? Who's in charge? Big pharma, defense contractors and the meat industry. Sucks.
