I switched my car insurance today
To the only 100% buy blue rated company. It felt pretty good, and I saved $200/yr.
Have you switched?

1. My boyfriend sells Progressive Insurance.

We live in Tennessee, but he's my very own "New England Liberal" from Boston.

2. Kudos to your bf, Clark, great company!
My experience with Progressive was very positive. Insurance shopping is not my idea of a fun Sat morning, but I wasn't really shopping, I called knowing I would switch. When I told her I was switching because of their buy blue rating, she sounded pleased, but did not inject any political commentary. Perfectly professional and pleasant.
Now on to financial advisors. I'm with AG Edwards, and if my guy is representative of the company, it's freeper heaven. I think Prudential is the bluest.
The fun part will be telling The Hartford and AG Edwards why I'm switching.

:P

3. The bf is working today, too.
I'm trying to get him to email me their 800 number in case anyone wants to purchase insurance as a result of this thread (I'm guessing he's on the phone and can't email just now).

I figure that many Dems would love to support a Dem-voting progressive working at a Blue company in the middle of red Tennessee. :)

Oh, and he used to be a financial advisor for AmEx, too. I'll ask him about Prudential if you'd like.

4. I have ITT Hartford, but I'm not switching
I have it through AARP, and the rates are low. By the way, it's nice to have enough finances to have a financial advisor.

6. It's not a matter of how much.
It has more to do with my own inability to manage my retirement account. I am horrible at it. Having a financial advisor doesn't necessarily mean a person has a large portfolio. In my case, a small one that I can't seem to manage on my own.

I do understand why you would choose to go with The Hartford in your situation. I wish the AARP would allow a choice, though. It may be worth writing them to suggest that they do.

But the point of the thread is not about me, how I spend my Saturday mornings, or how I manage my finances. That would go in the lounge after my "I had Special K for breakfast" thread.

The point is that there are good, blue alternatives that allow us to support progressive companies. We should encourage these companies to continue supporting Democratic causes. It's just as easy, and even cheaper in my case, to buy blue.

5. Sorry, can't afford it
They charge me a LOT more than geico. They admitted it themselves.

I've never had a speeding ticket. Never a moving violation. No claims in more than a decade.

Same for my spouse.

And yet they can't give us a better rate than geico.

I have no choice but to stay put until I can get a better rate.

16. no this is about affording food
and heat and clothing for my children.

Someday, maybe, if we ever get another Democratic president with a clue, I, as a working poor American, might be able to spend some extra money each month to "affect change" by withholding $100 dollars a month from a major corporation that won't notice my absence.

In the meantime, I am hot in the summer (no AC), cold in the winter (by cold I mean house heated to 60 degrees only), and renting a run down slum of a house that will probably be condemned soon.

Obviously you can afford to be self-righteous. I'm happy for you. Truly.

13. It's not just about car insurance
Spaghetti Warehouse is 100% blue. Olive Garden is 91% red.

I guess my point is that when there is a reasonable choice, it's in our best interest to support progressive companies.

Just a reminder, nothing more.

18. I buy blue when I can
in rural red state America, with a household of 4 surviving on less than $30,000/yr, my choices are limited.

First, survival. Second, activism. That is reality.

12. I switched to them about 4 years ago, and didn't even know they
were a blue company! I always get quotes when my annual premium is due, and they saved me over $400/yr. I've continued to compare companies and haven't found any that beat them. I can also tell you, husband was in an accident last year and totaled his car. Neither of us have any complaints about the efficient way the ins. co. handled the claim.

14. I switched, but didn't save any money
Progressive wanted $1736 for six months to add my 16-year-old son and his '91 Pontiac Grand Am with nothing but liability when they were already charging me $115 a month based on nothing but my insurance credit score, so I switched to Colorado Farm Bureau at $242 a month for both of us. Then I got a letter saying my premium is high because of my insurance credit score (which is due to my now five-year-old internet romance accident with a psychopathic con man). Insurance companies suck!

20. I had a hard time dealing with them
after a progressive driver hit my sons car in his oversized pick up. They were beyond cheap and tiresome to deal with. It may look alot prettier from the driver side if you choose them as your insurance...I certainly won't leave Geico.

23. I won't either.
Geico has been great to deal with and they gave us a better rate then Progressive offered. They've been our insurance provider for 12 years now.

24. Me too....
After a Progressive driver turned right in front of me. They yanked me around left and right. I finally got paid but had to threaten to sue them and go to the Insurance Commissioner before I got what I wanted.

22. Progressive has some pretty regressive policies
They pioneered raising rates on folks with bad credit.

They spend there money well, but their actions are contrary.

Personally, I'll have nothing to do with "progressive"
