Is the DSM officially dead as a serious media issue? |
|
I'd argue "yes," in part because of *convenient* distractions and the relative milquetoast response and apparent lack of follow-up from our Dem leaders in Washington.
Somehow, we've gone from 1.) a wellspring of grassroots interest in the DSM to 2.) makeshift Congressional hearing to 3.) Senatorial letter passing to 4.) crickets chirping...

2. Conyers has an article on the Huffington Post today |
|
He is still working hard building a case. It will probably make news again later especially if indictments are made on the Plame case. Once Bush is woonded then the sharks (angy press) will move in to finish him off hopfully.

5. Huffington Post isn't quite USA Today or any other large press distrib. |
|
This reinforces my case.
While Conyers' efforts are laudible, publishing articles in relatively obscure press and Web sites IS NOT the way to inform the larger public. And, public pressure is what is needed to reinforce any balls the Dems may have in pushing the DSM as a political issue (not to diminish the possible criminal aspects of the DSM).
We (DUers and other grassroots) are a noticeable force within our party, but until Ma & Pa Kettle in NC get pissed off about the DSM it will NEVER peak in the intensity necessary to get political action in a Repuke controlled government.

it is not due to the media. It will only die if the grass roots lacks the discipline to make it an issue. We should not expect the media or democrats in Washington to do for us what we choose not to do for ourselves.

4. I would say no, because it ties directly to the Valerie Plame leak case |
|
Every time someone talks about that case (not about the media part of it) it brings up the DSM. The problem recently is that the media would rather talk about Miller than how Rove is at least one of the leaks.

7. It depends upon indictements. |

DSM and the Plame case are a direct tie in because of the Yellow Cake and Mushroom Cloud scenerio of "fixing the facts for the policy".

Maybe it had a pulse, but barely. It has got no resonance with the sheeple, so it's dead. They know Bush conned them, but they are OK with it. That's America.
