If you don't mind, one more post for Andy.
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 10:16 PM by Faye
They are the lyrics that kept me going during the whole 2004 Election chaos. They are also the lyrics to the song in the background of the video Dzika and I made about it. And they are also the kind of lyrics we need to remember now that Andy is gone. Myself included. It is "Butterflies and Hurricanes" by Muse.

change,
everything you are
and everything you were
your number has been called
fights, battles have begun
revenge will surely come
your hard times are ahead.

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and use this chance to be heard
your time is now

change,
everything you are
and everything you were
your number has been called
fights and battles have begun
revenge will surely come
your hard times are ahead

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and use this chance to be heard
your time is now

don't,
let yourself down
don't let yourself go
your last chance has arrived

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and use this chance to be heard
your time is now

and one more time, to never forget. i was so honored when Andy said how much he liked it.

3. Me, either.

Those lyrics are wonderful, and so is the video. I always cry when I watch it. It always touches me.

2. My Hero!
Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Kudos my hero leaving all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

5. Not a song, but poetry...
Under Ben Bulben

I

Swear by what the sages spoke
Round the Mareotic Lake
That the Witch of Atlas knew,
Spoke and set the cocks a-crow.

Swear by those horsemen, by those women
Complexion and form prove superhuman,
That pale, long-visaged company
That air in immortality
Completeness of their passions won;
Now they ride the wintry dawn
Where Ben Bulben sets the scene.

Here's the gist of what they mean.

II

Many times man lives and dies
Between his two eternities,
That of race and that of soul,
And ancient Ireland knew it all.
Whether man die in his bed
Or the rifle knocks him dead,
A brief parting from those dear
Is the worst man has to fear.
Though grave-diggers' toil is long,
Sharp their spades, their muscles strong.
They but thrust their buried men
Back in the human mind again.

III

You that Mitchel's prayer have heard,
'Send war in our time, O Lord!'
Know that when all words are said
And a man is fighting mad,
Something drops from eyes long blind,
He completes his partial mind,
For an instant stands at ease,
Laughs aloud, his heart at peace.
Even the wisest man grows tense
With some sort of violence
Before he can accomplish fate,
Know his work or choose his mate.

IV

Poet and sculptor, do the work,
Nor let the modish painter shirk
What his great forefathers did.
Bring the soul of man to God,
Make him fill the cradles right.

Measurement began our might:
Forms a stark Egyptian thought,
Forms that gentler phidias wrought.
Michael Angelo left a proof
On the Sistine Chapel roof,
Where but half-awakened Adam
Can disturb globe-trotting Madam
Till her bowels are in heat,
proof that there's a purpose set
Before the secret working mind:
Profane perfection of mankind.

Quattrocento put in paint
On backgrounds for a God or Saint
Gardens where a soul's at ease;
Where everything that meets the eye,
Flowers and grass and cloudless sky,
Resemble forms that are or seem
When sleepers wake and yet still dream.
And when it's vanished still declare,
With only bed and bedstead there,
That heavens had opened.
Gyres run on;
When that greater dream had gone
Calvert and Wilson, Blake and Claude,
Prepared a rest for the people of God,
Palmer's phrase, but after that
Confusion fell upon our thought.

V

Irish poets, earn your trade,
Sing whatever is well made,
Scorn the sort now growing up
All out of shape from toe to top,
Their unremembering hearts and heads
Base-born products of base beds.
Sing the peasantry, and then
Hard-riding country gentlemen,
The holiness of monks, and after
Porter-drinkers' randy laughter;
Sing the lords and ladies gay
That were beaten into the clay
Through seven heroic centuries;
Cast your mind on other days
That we in coming days may be
Still the indomitable Irishry.

VI

Under bare Ben Bulben's head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid.
An ancestor was rector there
Long years ago, a church stands near,
By the road an ancient cross.

No marble, no conventional phrase;
On limestone quarried near the spot
By his command these words are cut:

Cast a cold eye
On life, on death.
Horseman, pass by!

William Butler Yeats

6. This was written about heros who also left too soon.
Neil Diamond wrote it and sang it in "The Last Waltz". It has been running through my head for 2 days.

Dry Your Eyes

Dry your eyes and take your song out,
it's a new-born afternoon.
And if you can't recall the singer
you can still recall the tune.
Dry your eyes and play it slowly
like you're marching off to war;
sing it like you know he's want it,
like we sang it once before.
And from the center of the circle
to the midst of the waiting crowd,
if it ever be forgotten
sing it long and sing it loud
and come dry your eyes.

And he taught us more about giving
than we ever cared to know,
but we came to find the secret
and we never let it go.

And it was more than being holy
and it was less than being free,
And if you can't recall the reason
can you hear the people sing.
Right through the lightning and the thunder
to the dark side of the moon,
to that distant falling angel
that descended much to soon
and come dry your eyes.

7. On this same theme,
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I would like to be.
And I could fly higher than an eagle
Because you are the wings beneath my feet.

thank you, Andy.

Revolution Now by Project Pitchfork

for all who didn't get it yet
we're living in the age of change
that means you should change yourself
don't wait until the others will

you have the power
to change the world
small reason - huge effects
small reason - huge effects

time is running away
second for second
break out of your mind-cage
and control your rage
you're responsible
you're responsible
understand that
understand that
don't be a cog-wheel anymore
don't be a cog-wheel anymore

don't sit there
move your ass
one is all
and all is one
don't sit there
move your ass
all is one
and one is all

every little thing you do
causes huge effects
the whole world
depends on your actions
you're responsible
you're responsible
understand that
understand that
the moon is red
the sun burns
the moon is red
the sun burns
time is running away
time is running away
second for second
second for second

time is running away
second for second
break out of your mind-cage
and control your rage
you're responsible
you're responsible
understand that
understand that
don't be a cog-wheel anymore
don't be a cog-wheel anymore
