If the Freepers had a fundraiser for a sick member, I'd probably donate.

If I read that that a human being needed some cash to help them live longer on God's earth, I'd donate some bucks. 10, 20, 30 bucks...it's only money and it sure would make me feel better knowing that I did the right thing.

This is how it should be and if you are a religious person who believes in the higher power, well I think that's exactly what the higher power, God, would want us to do.

It's really as simple as that.

1. Even we good people who aren't particularily religious, just good.
Be kind.

realizes that politics should never get in the way of helping to save someone's life.

3. Sadly, it's a concept few of the people slogging Andy
can get their brains around--that we may never want to know you, but we care about you anyway.

Brains are bursting as we type, I expect.

6. Not such a bad idea--I'm not kidding.
I know an almost 70 year old woman who just received a cochlear implant.

It was a struggle for her at first, but now she's enjoying music, and you can see it in her face when she listens.

It's incredible.

The first music she heard, of course, was Beethoven's 9th; The Ode to Joy, written on the occasion of his recovery of hearing (at least that's the story).

5. You are right ...
I always TRY to do the right thing. I don't always succeed, but I try. The right thing isn't always apparent but in cases like this it's pretty evident.

8. I would donate...but you know what I WOULDN'T Do???
I would never start rumors based on bald-faced lies.
I would never start a website that was dedicated to destroying that person's reputation, character, hope, will to live, and to a greater extent commit acts that contributed to destroying his life.
I would never continue said website after their untimely death.

9. For me, it wasn't so much about WHO was sick, it was that
he didn't have the resources to get the proper health-care.
I didn't know Andy personally; I knew him through his posts, I'd followed his story since way before the fallout with Bev, so granted I did have some personal connection to him.

But it was this fact--here was this guy, this close to a lifesaving procedure, being denied due to a demand for money--that got me riled up and ready to donate.

Similarly, when I donated funds to pay for calling cards for wounded vets, I didn't give a crap about their politics.

So yeah, I'm with you--possibly for slightly different reasons, but I'm with you.

11. That's the issue in a nutshell.
UIt was the fact that the hope was there; but being withheld over money.

I wouldn't have felt bad if it did turn out to be a scam.

republican.

Me, too, Trumad, even though I try not to associate with RWers.

And, I believe, most liberals would do the same also.

When it comes to the teachings of forgiveness, of course, few listen. They listen to some messages and ignore others. It's all about revenge and death penalty in America. Nobody likes to live by the Golden Rule. It's all bullshit to them.

17. Wouldn't anybody?
Well, honestly I'm not sure if I could bring myself to help out one of the people who'd maligned Andy, but that's my failing. Even assholes deserve medical care, I'd like to think I'd be mature enough to overlook past offenses.

What about some random FR type I had no particular grudge against? Sure, I'd chip in a few bucks to help out. Even if it wasn't the sensible and moral thing to do, the occasional kind gesture to one's opponents is good politics.

But not if that person was involved in the scamdy sabatoge, or if that person was on record cheering on the death of Paul Wellstone or any other liberal politician or public figure.

Then again, many of these people cheer on the deaths of Iraqi civilians every day.

But even then, I would never, no matter who it was, dedicate my life to blocking someone from getting medical treatment.
