Michael HILTZIK, BookTV: The Plot Against Social Security
Too late now, almost over. This dude is brilliant. Basically, the Shrubbites want to destroy it, would have opposed it from the start. Cato Institute is behind the push to destroy it. Calls Shrub the liar and fraud he is. Excellent audience questions, too: Shrubbites pursuing a double attack in dividing us, assuring the seniors they won't lose anything while undermining the Young's support of the system. He said the Dems have not spoken up enough because they are cornered into COMING UP WITH ALTERNATIVES when no alternatives are needed.

The Plot Against Social Security: How the Bush Plan is Endangering Our Financial Future
Michael Hiltzik

Description: The social security plan proposed by the Bush Administration is ineffective and its reliance on privatization is dangerous. This is what Los Angeles Times columnist Michael Hiltzik writes in his new book, "The Plot Against Social Security: How the Bush Plan is Endangering Our Financial Future." The author writes that the present social security system is not danger of running out of money any time in the next 75 years and that by changing the system, the retirement income for individuals would diminish significantly. Mr. Hiltzik writes that the social security issue has been highly politicized and needs to be re-evaluated with a more objective, economic approach.

Author Bio: Michael Hiltzik is the author of "A Death in Kenya" and "Dealers of Lightening." He is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and has spent more than twenty years covering politics and finance for the Los Angeles Times, where he now writes a regular column.

Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers 10 E. 53rd Street New York, NY 10022
