I laughed my ass off!! As my wife said, "people buy these things but can't afford the costs that go with them." I guess gas got a little too expensive, huh??

They should paint "FUCK YOU" on the sides and back in 4' X 1' letters. Somebody'd buy that.

Shiny black, brand new.. and personalized plates: GOP 'nuff said.

Whole town drives over and parks. I noticed eight to ten for sale signs that were exclusively on those new huge SUVs (2004 Ford Exhibitionists or something). Hey, my community isn't affluent enough for Hummers, but I think the fad for big and bigger SUVs has waned.

92. I gave the finger followed by "teenie-weenie-peenie" to a Hummer today
The guy seemed surprised someone would give him the finger for "no reason."

I followed-up on the finger with "teenie-weenie-peenie" but I couldn't maintain eye contact (I was driving) long enough to see if he "got it."

Despite the large number of photos on FUH2.com , my guess is that not enough people are giving Hummer drivers the finger yet for them to see it as routine.

Something needs to be done about this.

We need everyone on DU to pledge: Every Hummer gets the finger every time.

If you don't like it, don't post here. I laugh everytime I drive past a gas guzzler for sale by the side of the road. Gas guzzlers are not limited to Hummers, by the way. Jeeps, Explorers, Suburbans and more qualify. And I'm seeing more and more of them with for sale signs.

I hope all the idiots who bought Hummers get stuck with them until they have to pay to have them hauled away.

25. Welcome to DU! Enjoy your stay!
You are way off base with your comment, though. Oil isn't a renewable resource. The faster we burn through it with inefficient vehicles, the faster it goes away. Buying a gas-guzzling vehicle may well be an American right, but it isn't the patriotic thing to do given that we're at war in the Middle East.

Enjoy your Explorer and the gas mileage that you get with it! :hi:

33. Congratulations on your consumption!
:applause:

Unfortunately, the cost of gasoline isn't just what we Americans pay at the pump. The cost of oil includes those that die in the Middle East during the Iraq War (the war for oil).

Reducing consumption of consumer goods and oil is a wonderfully patriotic thing to do.

42. I would never need anyone to tell me what to drive.
Most of us like minded people here value what is left of the oil production and care about the environment. No one was telling the guy he should or should not buy the hummer. What this thread is actually about is the guy having more dollars than sense. He is using up our (universal 'our', not even the US 'our') resources and he bought something which he did not even take time to consider how much it would cost if gas ever went up.

We were also collectively laughing that the wing nuts believed King George when he said he would not let gas prices go up. It is like when they believed that there were WMD's or that King George was pro-life or even pro-religion. Those poor people got so suckered into his lies and believed him. It is just one more case where those poor deluded fools went worshiping at the alter of Georgie boy and got burned. They will never see it but people with intelligence do.

The person voted and most likely did so for the right. Whether they see it or not, they are getting their just desserts.

Welcome to our board and enjoy your stay.

76. My husband is always teasing me about my sayings.
He says I am uniquely Newfoundland.(Canada) I say things like :

Her taste is all in her mouth.
Listen to what I have to put up with on account of my ears.
Show me your friends and I will tell you what you are.
She doesn't have sense enough to keep her socks up.
Two shakes of a lamb's tail.
Her taste is all in her mouth.

And the list goes on. More dollars than sense is one of those sayings. I can not help but think that my husband is just sheltered and these are not just Newfoundland/Canadian sayings. Gosh, I hope I do not sound too much like Dr. Phil. Writing this stuff out kind of made me feel very folksy.

79. Nope,
Heard most all of 'em before. I say some similar things that my husband didn't get at first, either.

There were six of us kids and when my mom used to say something to one of us and we'd say "Who?" she would reply, "Your feet fit a limb?" Not many people get that one without an explanation but it's the first thing that rolls outta my mouth one someone asks, "Who?"

Glad to hear my hunch was right and my husband was just protected so much he never was exposed to them. Or maybe it is a male/female thing. Glad I am not the only one that says them.

and the ears one. my grandmother used to say "two shakes of a lambs tail"

i use sayings such as: "dream on", "get real", "gimmie a break", and other simple ones like that.

my mother's saying: "you're gonna be late for your own funeral" and when someone is running late or moving slow she'll say: "cow's tail". (yeah, right mom--like you grew up on a farm!)

Glad to see we are not the only ones familiar with those sayings. I had been suspicious that my husband had never heard of them and thought they must be more wide spread than back up in Canada.

I used those simple phrases as well but the ones my Great Aunt used to use are the ones that stick with me and make me feel closer to those who have departed this life.

38. I believe you should be able to buy what you want.
I myself would like to own an H1, the real Hummer. The reason I don't is they're too expensive and I would probably 4 wheel maybe 6 times a year and I don't need that to drive to work and I would feel WAY too guilty as to be so selfish to drive one of those things. The fact that I could never afford it helps. Now maybe an old pre-OJ Bronco like a '70 model, that would work but it's still too inefficient to drive daily but they're cheap enough to own to 4 wheel. The other problem is that the older I get the worse I think 4 wheeling is on the environment. When I see crap dumped in the middle of nowhere and I (actually it's a friend since it's his Blazer) have to carry it out, it really makes me feel we should close some of the parks down to 4 wheelers.

Now an H2, puleaze, they're just a Chevy with that ugly body on it. No four wheel independent suspension, no bare bones interior, nothing but ugly!

Reminds me of the guy on the Sopranos who was about to turn informant and sees some guy driving a POS and decides against it and Adriana gets killed over a Hummer!

64. I'll buy a Hydrogen powered Hummer someday, perhaps
Or a Hybrid Hummer that gets more than 30 MPG.

Then again, if you saw how I drive, you wouldn't want me driving a Hummer in your neighborhood...

46. I have been waiting for the fire sale to begin
on the larger SUVs. I only drive about twenty-five or so miles a week in my personal vehicle so fuel economy is not a big problem for me, and I hope to get one on the cheap.

My one pal does a lot of business with all the local car dealers, and they've been telling him that they can't move the used SUVs off the lot and are giving below pay-off value on trade-in.

48. I like to think of the impending crash in Hummers' (and their ilk) prices
as an arrogance tax.

49. A lot of the people that bought a Hummer or dually pick-up
got a large tax break because of the weight limits and could have been classified as a commercial vehicle if bought for business use. I own and drive a real commercial vehicle for a living, and my fuel bill averages around $4800 a MONTH.

I get a big charge out of everyone piling on about people that drive a certain style of vehicle; my boss has three kids, a farm, pulls trailers, and drives a Yukon. It is the most useful vehicle that I could think of for his circumstances. Oh, by the way, he spent about $2000 more in diesel to plant his crops this spring. Wait a little bit, food prices are going to skyrocket in this country.

86. There's a difference when they have commercial plates for a real purpose
Otherwise, this truck would be Public Enemy #1

Now, if instead of a Space Shuttle, I saw a pair of jet skis on the top, THEN I'd be annoyed.

try finding an Echo or Prius for sale. Good Luck !!

LMAO at Hummer buyers - - - for the most part, limpdicks who never served, trying to be macho, playing soldier in their faux humvees.

I hope they enjoy driving it to the tune of $3 every tem miles.

Idiots.

67. Find a used Echo. Not many around, but I got lucky.
I got mine before the gas prices started going through the roof.

I do mostly highway driving and get 50 mpg.

It is the first Japanese car I have owned and I am very happy with it.
It is not an expensive car but it is just put together better than any US car I owned.

68. Hummers are for wimps. What I really want is....

With a fuel capacity of 175 gallons, and a range of 300 miles, I could sneer at mere hummer owners as I whipped out $500 per fill-up!

It's a perfect family vehicle too...you need a driver and a vehicle commander at least.

Also...it's perfect for those shopping trips to Costco, with a big drop-down door in the back.

Yes, this is THE vehicle we all need; the Bradley fighting vehicle!

:sarcasm:

However, like any aspiring chickenhawk, I'm not about to expose my precious hide to enemy fire...so the aluminum shouldn't be an issue.

Dumb enough to buy it and smart enough to figure out that it costs more than a weekly paycheck at Walmart just for the gas.

88. It would make sense for drug dealers to own them
From what I understand, they do a fair job of stopping handgun bullets.

Anyone else has no real business with them.

Also, there's at least one Hummer Stretch Limo that I saw somewhere, too.
