Rep. John Conyers: What's Fair Game?
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 06:54 PM by Quixote1818
<snip>

In the 90’s, there was a media uproar when literally accurate, but misleading, statements were made about a private sexual affair. Today, when such statements are made out a life and death matter -- the decision to go to war -- for a Nixonian purpose -- to smear truth-telling critics -- there is barely a peep from the press corps. In the days since Rove’s role became public, the White House press corps has yet to pose a question to the White House press secretary about it. Not a word about the disgusting hypocrisy of an Administration that came to office promising to “change the tone” in Washington now attacking a critic through his spouse.

According to an earlier Newsweek report, Karl Rove was telling reporters that Wilson’s wife was “fair game.” Many reporters accepted this repulsive notion. One has to wonder whether their complicity in this smear then has rendered asking the important questions about it today “off-limits.”

9. Proof that the American press is now officially illegitimate.
Thankfully, they're increasingly obsolete.

10. You simply don't get it. S'all.
.
You simply don't get it. S'all. You don't.

You don't get the bald-faced fact that Karl Rove and lesser minions in the White House hold "news information" that reporters cannot obtain without kissing the ass of Rove. This "news" gathering at the cost of journalism ethics is at an all time low ever since George Walker Bush sat in the Oval Office.

Tis the dirty little secret that's withheld from the general populace due to the messenger being so frickin tainted by Rove and Company. America doesn't get the news, period.

13. My favorite part:
"Remember during the 2000 Presidential campaign when the Republican mantra was that President Bush was going to 'restore honesty and dignity to the White House?' How’s that going?"

16. Great Cheney Quote to Keep On Record
for the upcoming crap they are gonna pull with Rove...

from the article:

When Vice-President Cheney accepted his party’s nomination for Vice-President in 2000, he boldly declared: “They will offer more lectures, and legalisms, and carefully worded denials. We offer another way -- a better way -- and a stiff dose of truth.” Is that what we are getting?

17. Go JC! Get 'em!
Still, some how I do feel now some little sympathy for reporters.

If they rub up against the administration the wrong way they get killed. If they do their job, they get tossed in jail.

I think now is a good time to thank the reporters who do stand up and speak truth to power. The Seattle Post Intelligencer had a great article that's posted in one of our threads here.

Reporters San Frontiers (Reporters Without Borders) reports the death toll of Reporters and Media Assistants in Iraq is up to 63 - with 2 missing right now. Which means that in 3 short years we are at the total deaths of "journalists" (if we count media assistants) that it took Vietnam 20 years to produce.

http://www.rsf.org/special_iraq_en.php3

63 journalists and media assistants killed since the start of fighting in Iraq in March 2003, two still missing.

<snip>
63 have been killed since March 2003 while doing their job.

Two other journalists are still missing :

Frédéric Nérac
of ITV News (UK), since 22 March 2003
Isam Hadi Muhsin Al-Shumary
Suedostmedia, 15 August 2004

<snip>
The Iraq conflict is the deadliest inter-state war for journalists since the one in Vietnam, when 63 were killed, but over a period of 20 years (1955-75). During the fighting in the former Yugoslavia (1991-95), 49 journalists were killed doing their job.
