LAT says London attack is "a Second Wind for Bush"
There they GO again!....Dubbing Cuckoo Bananas the assumed "popular" president before a SINGLE poll is taken. That's the headline!

You don't suppose they could maybe note the ever INCREASING number of terrorist attacks during the rein of the bushies, and predict a really pissed off public, could they? :grr:

NEWS ANALYSIS
After Flagging Support, a Second Wind for Bush
By Doyle McManus, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — The bombs exploded in London, but the repercussions are still rippling across Washington.

A surge in public concern about terrorism means a probable boost in support for President Bush and the war in Iraq.

26. If 70 English dead is good, then 100,000 Iraqi dead is bad?
Think about it: 100,000 Iraqi's and 1700 americans dead makes b*** bad. So, of course, to fix that, make 70 more dead, but make them Londoners, and it undoes the others?

Tell me when I'm getting close....

5. Mr. McMamus, Ma'am, Is Off His Rocker
These attacks demonstrate to even the most witless that the Crawdord Coward has not a clue of what to do; that his policy in the question is a failure; that no one is any safer now than they were before his reign....

"Can't nobody here play this game?"

That is one of the greatest weaknesses in paying in for good press; when found out once, anything else said favorable to you is suspect....

6. This article is rife with unsubstantiated speculation. . .
take it for whatever credence you care to give it. Me? I find no value to it beyond a vapid attempt to sustain Shrub's faltering support.

7. We'll see about that. His #'s went down after his speech
a few weeks ago. I think more people are on to him and the foolishness of his policies, and it'll be reflected in the polls.

8. I respectfully disagree
The LA Times is one of chimpie's biggest critics and I dont believe what they are saying is completely off base.Red staters may see this as justification for his actions and might boost his falling numbers with people that voted for him.He got elected on a platform of fear.More fear might give him a temporary boost.I dont believe it was one of those "ra ra" articles

"There's no telling how long the wave of concern will last. If the London attack gives way to months of calm, the increased fear — and any gain in popularity for Bush — may well be short-lived. But for the moment, Washington is back in 9/11 mode.

"The bombings will give both Bush and Blair a boost," said Christopher Gelpi, a political scientist at Duke University who studies public opinion in times of war. "I think the attacks may help slow the ebbing of support over Iraq, because the bombings make point about linking Iraq and terrorism."

Bush wasted no time in citing the London attack to support his central argument for U.S. military operations in Iraq."

17. I don't know, Hurricane Dennis knocked London off the radar
I turned on CNN and got all hurricane, all the time. Besides, this could just as easily backfire on *. Another terrorist attack and he still does nothing to shore up security or make the borders any safer. I wouldn't bet the farm on a lasting bounce.

18. All true, but the press can drive a misperception
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 08:53 PM by Rose Siding
Look how hard it was to claw out from under the "popular war time pres" junk- He's been in the low forties for some time now. In a 24/7 news world that should be a marathon of "The Fall of Bush" stories.

Beyond that, the premise of this piece is just wrong. It assumes GOP strength on fighting terrorism and that just has *NOT* been the reality.

23. I take some comfort in the Zogby numbers
42% of the people, when polled, said that * should be impeached if it was found that he was lying. There has been almost no perceptible mention of impeachment in the MSM at all. And still this thought managed to permeate the public consciousness. That is significant.

I think the people know they have been sold a bill of goods by a master deceptor. The American people are not stupid and they should not be treated as if they are by any politicos or by the news media. They are smart enough to figure out that some wars are worth dying in and some are not. They want to believe that the Prez will do the right thing and will give him an inordinate amount of rope, but they also know that eventuallly that much rope can also hang someone.

I have faith in the people. That's why I'm a Democrat (and a beliver in democracy to boot!)

How even sadder it is that anyone would find that a good thing.
