Bush I appointee rules "Do Not Call" Unconstitutional - Free Speech... |
|
Check LBN.
"U.S. District Judge Edward Nottingham in Denver said, `The Federal Trade Commission has chosen to entangle itself too much in the consumers' decision by manipulating consumer choice and favoring speech by charitable (organizations) over commercial speech."
And guess what? He was appointed by George H.W. Bush.

2. The first ruling was technical and easily disposed of - this one... |
|
will require some court time - and it may impact states (like mine - PA) that have their own "DO NOT CALL" lists. The calls stopped about a year ago here - if they start again a whole lot of people will be pissed.

and that's really what it's all about isn't it? To hell with charity speech, to hell with political debate, to hell with dissent, to hell with questioning the government's actions or requesting accountability and oversight. To hell with an individual's right to speak their mind in public, to hell with objectivity in science and journalism, to hell with all that, BUT DON'T TRY AND TOUCH A CORPORATIONS RIGHT TO INVADE YOUR PRIVACY AND MAKE UNSOLICITED, HIGH PRESSURE SALES CALLS!.
Really, this has simply got to stop, IMO.

5. That judge is full of shit |
|
What total BS.The government isn't taking away the right of these call centers to place sales calls. They can still make all they want as long as a consumer decided not to sign up on a no call list.
The people who did sign up--like myself, have made the decision THEMSELVES,not by the government that they don't want to be bothered by these call centers.
Sounds like that judge is merely a sock puppet for big business and call centers. His statement and or ruling will go nowhere.

did a rant this evening about the OK judge's decision and pointed out he was a Carter appointee. Didn't mention the Denver judge.
