Sirius doesn't even know what programming will replace AAR
They knew far in advance that AAR was leaving for XM, and now they have no idea what kind of programming will replace AAR on 144

I have three Sirius receiver, and just terminated one of them. I am waiting to see what they do, but if they go with another right wing channel, they already have two, and their talk central is pretty right wing, I will be pissed, and they will probably lose me as a customer

2. ABC News, Patriot, Talk Right, Talk Central, Fox News, CNBC,
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 09:28 AM by Feeney2
Wisdom, are all far more right than left. It is not even close the few left shows available. Out and Talk Left are the only true left of center shows. ABC is the worst. You would think that they wouldn't mostly carry the likes of Hannity etc., but they do.

8. Wisdom?
What right-wing talk is on Wisdom? I've only listened to ENN News(Environmental News Network) and Beyond Organic on Wisdom, and I think those are two pretty good, and definitely not right-wing, shows. Also, Talk Central isn't very political. They still need to replace AAR, though, with another liberal talk station to balance out Patriot, Talk Right, and ABC. I like Talk Left better than AAR anyway (though I'll miss Al Franken), and I think Sirius can still provide better liberal programming than XM if they replace AAR with a new liberal station. It's annoying, though, the way Sirius takes their time and doesn't always tell us what is going on.

26. Yeah, yeah, we've heard it before.
"They signed an exclusive deal with XM, which means they'll drop the other stuff and have all of Randi and Malloy."

"They've just started promoting the exclusive deal, which means they'll drop the other stuff and have all of Randi and Malloy."

"They're off of Sirius July 11th, which means they'll drop the other stuff and have all of Randi and Malloy."

"The planets are going to align perfectly, bringing about the Jupiter Effect and reversal of the magnetic poles, which means they'll drop the other stuff and have all of Randi and Malloy."

"God himself went on Fox News last night and said that the world is ending on November 30th and to pack our shit now, which means they'll drop the other stuff and have all of Randi and Malloy."

We're not getting jack from XM and you know it.

This is like the radio equivalent of Battered Wife Syndrome. Liberals are so used to not having any representation in the media that when we get royally shafted like with Sirius dropping AAR and them settling for this half-baked XM deal, we don't make noise. "At least we're better off than before." BULL!

I can get Air America on broadcast radio, so I'm planning on keeping my sirius unit. At least for now.

6. you and I are pretty much in the same boat
but if Sirius puts on another right wing channel on 144 I will not have that much to justify it

I actually believe they will put on liberal/progressive talk. They have to be getting a lot of calls this morning asking what happened to their AAR

11. Found out my yearly renewal is at the end of this month...
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:35 AM by calipendence
Phew! I've got a couple of weeks to switch it to monthly. Sirius support was working over the weekend, as they responded to my emails last night, so they must be anticipating a lot of us potentially jumping ship if they don't do things right. Their response indicated to me that they are still working on a new replacement for 144 now. This was a portion of an email from late last night from their support people.

========================
...
While Air America Radio has made the decision to leave SIRIUS, our commitment to great liberal talk programming continues. On SIRIUS Left // Ch. 143, we have an outstanding lineup of liberal talk including Ed Schultz, Alex Bennett, Lynn Samuels, Alan Colmes, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, The Young Turks, and more! We're always looking to add or develop even more programs to give you the best variety of programming choices anywhere. Please feel free to visit sirius.com for the latest information on our programming!

At this time, we are not able to release any information pertaining to replacement programming for Channel 144. We can tell you that we are diligently working on an even stronger lineup for this channel. As soon as we are ready to release details, they will be posted on our website at sirius.com. Additionally, you referenced providing a link in your email to us for our review. After careful review of your message, it does not appear that the link was provided. If you would still like to supply this information we would be happy to forward this information to our programming department for further consideration. We hope this information helps!
....
========================

The link I forgot to add to this email I sent then I added to a subsequent email was my proposal for potential variants of their schedule with a new progressive channel.

http://miken.best.vwh.net/talkradio/newlineups.html

Hopefully they're already on the way to putting something like this in place.

I think that my note of moving to a monthly plan from a yearly plan will hopefully be another part of us sending the messge to them that their getting a replacement for AAR is critical for us staying on there as subscribers.

I am a Sirius subscriber, and they knew AAR was leaving months ago. They should have had this better planed

I will wait and see what develops

but I can't listen to the lady they have on in the afternoon - her voice grates on my nerves. I tried and gave up after less than a minute each time.

Still like him from his Live-105 days in the Bay Area, though he comes on a little early for me now on Sirius. Stephanie Miller I'm guessing will be offered up in the morning slots soon when Sirius expands its lineup.

22. Rosco If you know anyone at XM
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 01:19 PM by Wheaty
Could you ask them to turn down the promos and commercials to the same volume as the music or talk channel.

I continually have to adjust the volume up and down on my XM because the commercials, promos etc are so much louder then the regular programming. It drives me nuts.

I've repeatedly emailed XM about it and they don't even bother to reply.

My Sirius is fine all one level of volume across all programming so I know it's not a satellite thing or even a problem with feeds coming in from outside XM.

I have XM on my motorcycle and the abnormally loud promos and such hurt my ears when playing it through my helmet speakers. It's even more noticeable on 77 Audio Visions since the music is lite sounding anyway.

You seem to know some people at XM so I thought maybe you could get some action.

BTW: It's not just me who complains about this. Everyone I ever talked to with XM says the same thing about the promo/commercial volume.

Thanks

23. I really don't know anyone at XM that could do anything on that, but..,
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 01:26 PM by Rosco T.
.. and you have to realize, the 'outside' programming (ie, anything but music) is fed to them seperately from the 'inside' programming (commercials, PSA's, etc..) so each has their own board to set levels.

Call the listener service line or (just a second.. hang on..)

drop Megan.Robertson@xmradio.com a note with your concerns and that you haven't gotten a response from any other source (this is a case of letting shit roll down hill). She's on of the Talk Programming directors (and this seems to hit the talk programming more than any other place). She's a very nice person and unless she's buried under she WILL write you back.

24. Thanks for the contact
I realize outside programming, but Sirius never seemed to have a problem with their levels even on their former AAR channel. I really noticed a difference when I started listening to XM for AAR instead of Sirius to prep for the changeover today. Never had to fuss with the volume level on Sirius. With XM I'm up and down all day long.

I'll shoot her an email later today.

Thanks

Thanks Roscoe. This woman is on top of things. She replied quickly and agreed there is a difference in the loudness and is going to try to get the in house promos and Air America feeds at a consistent volume.

She asked me to email her at the end of the week to let her know if I notice a difference.

20. All the more reason I tell people to go to XM
There IS a difference in XM and Sirius

Sirius doesn't add programming as often as they should be now and XM is taking leaps and bounds adding new content all the time as the more and more people sign up. Sirius is making a BIG mistake if they don't the Liberal channel going.

One just has to list them all side by side to see just how many right wingnuts there are. The only lefties are the new AAR. I'm sticking with Sirius.

28. WHY did AAR go exclusive w/ XM?
This seems antithetical to getting the message out? (A short-term revenue decision may hurt long-term viability.)
