Note the lack of the word Valerie and the lack of the word Plame.

As another poster said, it sounds a bit like a junior high excuse.

will surface when he is forced to elaborate and claims what he MEANT was, he didn't know Plame's name 50 years ago.. which means he told the truth.

Which to me is the same as naming her. Marriage licenses are public record and woul dbe easy for anybody to find.

If the shoe was on the other foot and the leaker was a Dem, he and his family would have been deported and/or burned at the stake

He may not have used her name but the effect was the same. And the fact that he repeated it to several reporters shows his intent. He did it deliberately with malice.
