OMG, was anyone just watching the CBS news??
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 05:53 PM by SmileyBoy
They were talking about how the military can't keep the current number of troops in Iraq, and then they were interviewing some (freeper) Army pilot from a unit in New York, and he said something like, "We need more people to come here and defend our country. And parents, if you don't want your kids to come here and fight, shame on you. Move somewhere else."

I was just aghast at this. How can this asshole say this shit?? I mean, he's there. Does he not know how dangerous it is there??

They should let the reports ask the soldiers on the front line who are asking themselves daily, "what am I doing here?!"

6. I'd be happy to encourage my young loved ones to defend their country
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 06:06 PM by rocknation
but what what they'd be defending in Iraq and Afghanistan are the Bush empire's business interests--the benefits of which will NOT be trickling down to us. If your commander-in-chump had any real blood and guts, he would have taken the advice about how many troops he'd need and instituted a draft regardless of the political blowback. He could do that now, except that it would be tantamount to admitting he'd made a mistake. Bush is the one who needs to move somewhere else--preferably to a place with bars on the doors and windows.

I saw the piece - it was great.
He did more in 5 seconds to educate the public than George Bush has in 5 years. All true believers 'front and center' - uncle George needs you, the mission is not accomplished.

Make him a frontline soldier, not a pilot. There, that make you happy?

It isn't as blood curdling flying an Apache gunship armed with 20mm guns and Hellfire missiles than it is simply armed with a rifle, some grenades, and body armor with only a few yards between you and the next fucking RPG or car bomb or roadside bomb worrying about whether your humvee will survive because it doesn't have armor.

Secondly, I only have one problem with what he said, and that is it doesn't sound like he limited his calls for enlistment to Bush voters and other war supporters. If he did that, I'd actually be damn happy to hear that on national tv.

I won't hold my breath or anything.

You know, those recruiters have got to be seriously pissed at bush voters right about now. Especially those about oh, 18 to 35 years old. They voted for the man AND his war and where are they now?

Not to be found.

I know of another flyboy who still owes the military a couple of years service, because he went over the hill in 1972.

Of course he feels that way. We all would. We'd be scared. We'd be angry. And lets face it, they are probably not being told the truth about everything.

Those kids are being used and they need to come home now.

We don't need to be sending any more kids (and older men and women)over there into harms way. It's time, over time, to come home.

27. Sounds like Fort Drum outside Watertown...
we live about an hour from there and shop there quite often. Haven't been there recently but a few months ago there were yellow ribbons and such everywhere not just cars. Wonder if that's changed with all the new stuff coming out?

His words don't surprise me.. so many are programed that way and believe it... or if they're smart they say they do. We have a friend who's husband is Army (Lt Col) stateside.. the stuff he told her and us never panned out... but it's his job to stay to the script.

As for the fly boys "Move somewhere else"... BITE ME! Although I would gladly give my own life truly defending my country if it were attacked/invaded there's no way in heck I'd do so or have my husband or children do so for a bunch of lies, power plays and GREED.

He was a CWO (Viet Vet) helicopter pilot who lamented the fact that all the Iraq war supporters are not over there fighting, and therefore our current generation of young people are going to carry the burden.

34. Not to defend the guy - but maybe he's just pissed.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 09:14 PM by Clark2008
He's on his second tour, recruiting numbers are dwindling and he's tired of fighting this illegal war. So, rather than pop off about how rotten the war is, he turns his spot into a half-assed recruiting tool - you know, so he can get some relief and come home.

Of course, it comes off lame because he's so angry with the world right now.

I mean, this is just a theory. I'm sure there are thousands of soldiers who are tired, home-sick and vengeful about now.
