CBC: Italy arrests 142 just to "ease public anxiety"

Is this what the world is coming to, kneejerk rounding up people for minor drug charges to make people "feel safer"?

Italian police have arrested 142 people in a two-day anti-terrorism operation in and around Milan.

Authorities said the sweep was meant to ease public anxiety in the wake of the deadly July 7 bombings in London.

About 2,000 police officers took part in the campaign, which increased patrols around train stations, subways, business districts and other locations thought to be potential targets...

Italian police said most of the people who were picked up on Friday and Saturday were arrested for being illegal immigrants or on petty theft or drug charges.

4. Ya know in a sick demented sort of way .....

it's the same line of thinking that brings us 'body counts' on the 'insurgents' killed from day to day over in Iraq. Like that's the standard to judge the 'successful' war on terror for the ignorant and limited attention span of the general public. Keep the masses pacified. Look how many we killed, look at all the people getting arrested, something must be working righ? Goo goo ga ga ... sheesh ... All I have to say is f... ing creeps. Peace.
