we met with our congressman today |
|
He said the Downing street memos were invalid, and could never be proven in any case. I said, "Well, there's an investigation going on right now which may show that Karl Rove gave away the name of a covert agent, one who was working on WMDs. And it may be that it was part of a larger effort to intimidate those in the diplomatic and Intel community who were not on board with the Iraq program.
"If that's the case, and if the intel was fixed, and people intimidated, and we went to war on a deliberate lie, do you think it rises to the level of, say, sex in the oval office?"
He got all pissed.

9. Well, since it was a private meeting, |
|
and there was no press there, I'd feel a little unfair naming names. The informal ground rules of the meeting were as a freewheeling discussion, and it might curtail future opportunities if I were indiscreet.
It's a leading Midwestern republican.
What's disturbing is, he's still repeating "Saddam sponsored Al Quaeda training camps" and stuff like that. It's discouraging that he's not learning. It is clear he knows it's a goat fuck that they need to back out of, but he's unwilling to say it's not been worth it. He thinks lots of good stuff is happening there. He expressed a willingness to hear from Iraq vets who might have some alternative views for him, if anyone knows any.
We gave him some PNAC stuff, which he'd never seen, as well as a bundle of articles to bolster our points. We'll probably invite him to our film showing of "Hijacking Catastrophe".

probably voted in on diebold voting machines.
if their defense is that the DSM are not real or can't be proven, they're grasping at straws.
