In search of laptop help (pointing device, to be more specific).
...So I got a new notebook Compy...well, truth be told, my first notebook ever. Got All I need...encrypted Wireless G/Firefox/Thunderbird/Open Office/etc. Everything I need for email; browsing the web; work; etc.

Problem = it's a pass me down. Perfectly capable of doing the basics, but it's a dreaded IBM Thinkpad (Windows 2000 Server Prof.).

I'ts a bitch navigating with the itsy bitsy red nub (located between the g,h, and b keys) and the 3 "mouse button" thingamajigs.

I can plug in PS2 or USB mouse, but that makes it...rather less portable.

What I'm looking for is something my dad had a good 10 years ago...a trackball that latches on (and obviously connects) to the side of your laptop. Barring that, any pointing device that doesn't require me to turn my laptop into a 400mgz wannabe desktop.

Any suggestions (ESPECIALLY regarding attachable laptop trackballs...you can'r beat Centipede with a mouse ;-)

If ya have a link to Newegg, all the better. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards, Dave.

1. Therin lies the nub
The nub is really not as bad as it seems once you get used to it, takes about half a day.

But yeah for centipede (MAME emulation ?) you definitely need a trackball!

The clip-ons I think are most often proprietary IBM parts, or at least need to be bought for that thinkpad, and have a receptacle on the side for it.

3. You got it...I used to be the "pinball wizard" of centipede
I also had the throttle sold seperately for Pole Position.

WHY DID I THROW MY YOUTH AWAY?;( :freak:

Actually, I still use an 8 or so year old 3 button Logitech trackball, covered in coffee and other unmentionables, on my modern, homebuilt PC. Mice are only good for Mac 1's and Capral Tunnel Syndrome :)

2. I apologize mods, but if this thread could be moved to the lounge...
it would be much appreciated.
