US troops ordered to avoid London
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 03:12 AM by mr blur
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4673987.stm

<snip>
"Details of the travel ban, enforced on Friday, emerged as US President George W Bush said the US would "not retreat in the face of terrorists" .
He said: "In this difficult hour, the people of Great Britain can know the American people stand with you."
<snip>

Do I detect a little sarcasm in the old BBC?

on edit:

For some reason this really pisses me off. What is this, a case of "If you're an enemy we'll come right into your capital city, but if you're a "friend" then you'll understand why we don't show some solidarity"? Don't want to be fighting them "over here", I suppose. I notice Bush managed to avoid London too, although he was close enough last week. Missed the opportunity to show those terrorists HE wasn't afraid.

1. I think its deeper
I read a post on this earlier. I think it may be that Great Britian doesn't want US troops there for some political or security reasons.

5. They mean US personnel at RAF bases near London
not allowed to spend any off-duty time in London. ~I don't know anything about any military - would they be in uniform if they were in their own free time?
