I still don't think its just about Rove. That may be what we are all salivating over, but I really think something else is brewing under all the Rove/Miller media hype. It just doesn't make sense to me that Fitzgerald would have Miller put in jail over a simple perjury charge. Would somebody resurrect the Plame threads so we can piece all of this together?

I really think the conspiracy charge is the most likely. Mainly because it does look like the prosecutor is trying to prove that it was not an isolated incident. With their being so many calls, and it seem multiple sources the best bet seems to be to show that is was a policy to get the name, or story out to as many people as possible. If they can show more than one person leaking the name or even the story at the same time, it would, to most show it was a campaign to discredit.

Many, in their rush to hoping to hang Rove as a traitor for treason miss what can easily happen in this type of investigation.
Fitzgerald has been at work for over a year trying to untangle what happened here. His responsibility is strictly to see if a crime had been committed. Had this been a simple up or down case...had a Scotter Libby or someone else just blurted out the Plame name, this case would have been long closed. Something else happened along the way.
My credits to the tight lid Fitzgerald has kept on this investigation. This is driving people nuts right now, because no one has any indication what's being looked into. Obviously the judge and the grand jury smell something wrong here and have allowed Fitzgerald to continue his probe and go to the lengths of jailing Miller (and Cooper) to get to some conclusion.
I now see this as a win-win...even if Rove walks free. He's wounded as is the credibility of this regime to pretend to not put their politics ahead of the best interests of the country. If that political capital is milked properly, this can keep this regime on the defensive and give us a little room to breath.
At best, Fitzgerald has either a contempt or conspiracy case that could open the door to many possibilities. We still don't know how other members of this regime fit in. How did Rove get Plame's name? Who ordered that dirt to be dug? Were there others passing this info around?
I would love a conspiracy charge...that then opens up the motivations as to the entire Iraq war operation.
Welcome to DU
Cheers

3. Fitzgerald is absolutely thorough |

and keeps a tight control on leaks. I know many were/are worried that he is Republican, but his record proves that he seeks justice when the law has been broken and he's like a dog with a bone.
He has "something" though. And it would appear to be far reaching.

I think the only reason he's Republican is because he works in Chicago and doesn't want to be influenced by the Daley machine. This guy is as straight a shooter as they come.

I would love to see turdblossom get hung out to dry on a treason conviction. I know, I know, wishful thinking! Treason does carry a heavier penality. Do we know how much of an attack-dog Fitzgerald is? Is it possible we might just be seeing the beginning of a serious investigation?

5. Remember with Clinton it was about the Lying |
|
Rove has already made statements to the grand jury. He may have already lied, saying he didn't leak the name. Now, wiggle out of that Karl.

8. Someone Should Get Transcript From Al Franken's Show Yesterday. |
|
Lawrence O'Donnell was on and gave a LOT of info on this subject. I just posted some of it at another thread.
Where does O'Donnell post. It's there too! I just can't remember the name!!
He did say that he felt it was HIGHER UP, but was unsure that Rover will topple, mainly because Rover WILL DO ANYTHING to protect "the corrupt ones"!

I so rarely bother to post in GD because this always happens to me. :)
O'Donnell posts on Huffington's blog. I think it's huffingtonpost.com, but not 100% sure.

13. Miller's still in jail |
|
That's why I don't see Rove as being the big fish. Nothing I've read suggests Rove has done anything more than perjury. Fitzgerald doesn't need Miller to testify to prove that. While it may not necessarily go higher up, I do think that it's going to be someone in Cheney's cabal. My money's on Scooter spending some time in the pen.

9. I don't know what he's got, |
|
but Lawrence O'Donnell (spelling?) pointed out on the Al Franken show that every judge who's looked at Fitz's classified documents have agreed with him that it's serious. One of the judges seemed sympathetic to Miller's defense of privilage & stilled ruled against her.
Whatever he's got, I wanna know.
