"Armpit" state has best town to live in....Money magazine
Now, I know Jersey is considered the "armpit" of the nation, but this is total vindication that Jersey IS o.k. Yes, we do have the highest person per mile ratio in the country, the highest auto insurance in the country and had the #1 toxic waste site in the country. Now we have a really good thing - Moorestown, county of Burlington in southern N.J., rated the best town to live in the country. Yea!!

4. I dunno. I've only been to Jersey once, but Cedarville and all points
south are very nice. Cape May is for lovers. B-)

19. Yeah, I was impressed with much of New Jersey.
Sure, the Newark area and the very industrial parts are, well, armpitish, but most of the state is just lovely.

3. Not the armpit.
The "armpit" label is reserved for the hinterlands. Jersey is a pretty well trafficked.

Being that you are from Jersey though I won't rain on your parade by suggesting the appropriate anatomy part

7. Personally, I loved it here as a child, but not it's too congested.
I like more open spaces and there's not very much of that around here anymore. Wherever there's 5 acres of land, some contractor will snatch it up and build homes or stip malls. No new roads though - more people, more cars, more congestion but no new roads....(sigh).

btw-I lived in N.H. for a year and a half and I loved it!

8. Im a former Jerseyan
Grew up in Monmouth County...Jersey gets a bad rap for that northern strip of chemical plants scorching the environment, but much of NJ is beautiful.

10. The part of Jersey that always get me is the G.S. Parkway.
I absolutely HATE driving that highway. The drivers on it are absolute insaniacs.

13. Former Jersey Girl
I grew up in Ocean County. I live in the Bay Area now. All I can say after reading the article, is "BOONYVILLE, NJ, #1 AND MILL VALLEY, CA, #10????? These people are obviously not living in the real world.

9. Hadn't heard that but it wouldn't surprise me.
I know my taxes are high (Camdem county) - $5K for a 100x200 corner lot. I'm willing to bear the crunch though; we're on a dead end street with only 2 other homes, lots of trees and lots of indigenous wildlife (which I love).

18. I, too, am a Jersey "shore whore"
What's left of it, that is, now that all these condos are going up and cutting off public access to the beaces. If it's not near the Garden State Parkway, It's not in MY New Jersey!

15. Are you maybe thinking of Morristown?
There are 2 named the same, but spelled differently. Morrestown is in the south central part of the state, Morristown is in the north somewhere. The two can't compare.

17. I'm originally from around the Morristown area
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 10:48 AM by IanDB1
I wouldn't mind moving back home, actually.

But the article is actually talking about Moorestown, not Morristown.

The town, founded by Quakers, bans the sale of alcohol, but there's plenty of night life in Philadelphia, just 15 miles away. As for the schools, the district had to hire another Latin teacher -- yes, Latin -- because the language is so popular.

Summer's big event is the town play. Mayor and local lawyer Kevin Aberant will play a marshal in this year's production of "Oklahoma!"

<snip>

Easy access to highways means a trip to the Jersey Shore takes less than an hour, and New York City is 90 minutes away in the opposite direction. But because no major road runs through Moorestown, sprawl stops at the town line. That's not to say growth doesn't present challenges.

<snip>

On the border with Mount Laurel, a shopping center anchored by Costco and Target opened last year, increasing traffic through town. And much of Moorestown's farmland has been lost to subdivisions.

Home prices are up about 50 percent in the past five years, but compared with the suburbs of many big northeastern cities, Moorestown remains affordable.

16. Years ago, I spent some time in the Moorestown area
It's really beautiful down there.

I was working on a documentary crew, mostly in the towns of Bivalve and Shellpile, NJ.
http://www.hometownlocator.com/City/Bivalve-New-Jersey.cfm

The documentary was about the oyster fishing industry and a disease called MSX that was destroying it.
http://vertigo.hsrl.rutgers.edu/msx.html

It's a beautiful area down there, and I wouldn't mind living there.

20. I spent summers in Paterson when I was a kid.
My grandmother lived there (my mother went to Eastside High School).

You seem to have both of the extremes covered.
