A stony silence
White House Silence on Rove's Role in Leak Enters 2nd Day

By RICHARD W. STEVENSON
Published: July 12, 2005

WASHINGTON, July 12 - President Bush was asked today if he planned to fire Karl Rove, a senior aide at the center of an investigation over the unmasking of an undercover C.I.A. officer, and he offered only a stony silence in reply.

"Are you going to fire him?" the president was asked twice in a brief Oval Office appearance with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore. Both times, the president ignored the questions.

Then a White House aide signaled that the session was over. "Out those doors, please," the aide told journalists. "Thank you very much."

1. Today's press briefing
offered no more about it either. Scotty just kept deflecting any questions about Rove, Bush*'s confidence in him, or whether the WH had any "credibility problem."

12. Yes, don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.
Or let it, I don't care, just get out.

3. Is this gathering momentum?
I don't really want to be optimistic here.

5. The silence is very telling
When a habitual liar can't think of something to say, you know it's bad.

6. Challenged for the metaphor of a stony silence
When water runs over stones, there is no silence.
But that would be a stony brook.

If silence has stones, then it is a stone moment,
one with ancient rock, and not silence.
Or perhaps it means stoned faces, hiding expression
mount rushmore silence.

But implied is then a silent photograph of
liars, deception covered up, fraud and
a closet of skeletal betrayers trading
pockets of flesh that one of them
can appear to be human.

But then that isn't silence.

7. Power- the silence is about power.
These ghouls do not hesitate to let the rest of us know,
in a situation like this, that they don't care what we think.
The silence is the exercise of authority- they don't feel that
they have to comment on it at all.
That is my take on it as one who studies human behavior.
It is the ultimate "Fuck you" and the American people
should be outraged by the behavior.

17. That's it- the silence is a communication
and says far more than any words ever could.
It says, "Fuck you, I don't have to tell you ANYTHING."
And that is exactly how these people think.
