In regard to Bush firing Rove - Just quoted on Al Franken's show.

Edited to add: I think the guest that said it was Josh Micah Marshal of http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/ I'll see if I can find the post on that site.

6. Excellent comparison!
I just assumed that everyone knew this stuff. Probably a very small percentage of DUers actually saw/heard Bergen and McCarthy during his prime.

13. During his time..probably not alot
When I was young I had some of his old radio shows on tape though, and - just to tie it in - he was in the first muppet movie.

7. I was watching him in a W.C. Fields flick the other day...
... and was astounded at what at amazingly poor ventriloquist he was - lips moving and everything. I'm puzzled by his past popularity, though I guess bad ventriloquism is alright over radio.

(pause while someone wonders WHY ventriloquism on radio.)

Though "Mortimer Snerd" is a decent name...

18. Yeah, ventriliquism over the radio...
Strange how such an irrational concept closely mirrors the White House today.

10. More on Bush & Charlie McCarthy...
A snip from a BuzzFlash editorial...

And rest assured, if Rove is not indicted, Bush is not going to fire his Svengali. Bush without Rove would be like Charlie McCarthy without Edgar Bergen. (If you are too young to understand that analogy, Edgar Bergen was Candace Bergen's father and he was a ventriloquist. Charlie McCarthy was his dummy.)
