Stupid gun argument AGAIN |
|
On another forum I frequent one of the baby neocons posted this gem:
Isn't it strange in a city where firearms are illegal that the murder rate is so high? If it were legal to carry firearms in Chicago, my guess is that the murder rate would go down.
Should I let it pass or engage the freep wannabe in a frustarting conversation?

What is it with Freeper types that they never absorb the recurring detail in Westerns that eventually, in towns with out of control violence, the local citizens and law enforcement require visitors to cough up their sidearms at the Marshal's office, and no one but law enforcement is allowed to walk around armed?
Anyone remember this movie quote, delivered by law enforcement to a private citizen gunowner, "Next time you ride into town armed, you'll ride out feet first!"
OK I don't like Westerns much but gunnuts do, and having watched some westerns I know that legal confiscation of firearms is a subject that comes up frequently and ALWAYS favorably, that is until Eastwood's unbelievably irresponsible Unforgiven. There, the gun confiscating Sheriff is the local badguy. In actual historical examples however, badguys who ran towns and counties and territories were merchants and ranchers, and they hired private armies of gun totin' thugs and embroiled whole communities in their trade motivated gun wars. They weren't any different from one drug gang trying to wipe out another rival gang. Lots of innocent people died in the crossfire, and eventually the community and law enforcement defended themselves by DISARMING these mercantile thugs and taking the para-military side of their little empires down.

3. I am curious as to what NRA types think about |

the cell phone ban on NY subways. They should agree that the ban is stupid, but then they would think that they are aiding terrorists by allowing them.

...the US government isn't solving all the problems in Iraq by simply giving every man, woman, and child a gun.
Or, on second thought, ignore him. Spare yourself the frustration, and instead have a discussion with someone capable of rational thought. Go find a five-year old somewhere and get a more adult argument.

9. although I've been anti-gun for something like 40 years or more . . . |
|
the issue has fallen way to the bottom of my list of priorities . . . first, there's just too much other shit to be concerned about . . . and second, at the rate things are going, we may just need guns to ward off the Gestapo . . .
