As we discuss the Energy Bill:
Please read this. A rather damning indictment of deregulation, although this is regarding telecom. Deregulation: It's just another name for "Con Game".

1. marked to be read
along with rereading the puhca stuff.

By the way, Tandalayo_Scheisskopf, I read an LBN article today that in the thread had a link to a story I hadn't read - that a bank (ING ?) was suing JP Morgan for their losses through investments with another group that JP Morgan was financing and Deloitte Touche was auditing. ING claims it was essentially a ponzi scheme. Thing is - this went on through 2002 - long after the collapse (and lessons) of Enron.

A long time ago in the Enron aftermath we had a few discussions about concerns of the levels of debts held by various companies and banks (not to mention consumers...). You sent me an item which discussed the degree to which JPMorgan had put a great deal of money into risky (leveraged?) investments. Wonder if they have begun to reverse their tactics - or if they and other financial institutions remain in somewhat precarious standings (if more big companies were to fail.)

Any of this ring a bell?

You must mean this: http://www.zealllc.com

A must read for those interested in the kneewalking economics of the Big Banks.

From what I can see, and from what I see of ALL debt in this country, they are in quite precarious straits. It's won't take much to make some of them topple.

I am not one of those who thinks the worst is behind us. If we do 4 more years with the maladministration, we are in the deepest shit. No shit.

The election of 2004 could not be more important. America is at real peril of becoming a modern feudal state.
