What is your activist passion?
Like, what thing really gets you motivated to do something?

Election fraud, peak oil, impeachment, 2006, 2008, etc.?

1. Peace. Justice. Equality. Bringing down the establishment.
I'm an Anarchist - AKA Libertarian Socialist. Power wielded by the few is the problem.

5. Getting the corporations and their money out of politics!!
Lobbyists and the big money gives everyone an advocate but the people. Coupled with cleaning up the revolving door between the Government and lobbyist firms has to be the biggest challenge and first step. Then we make the campaign process sane again, instead of the billion dollar business it now is.

8. Whaddya want? A Democracy??
Instead of the oligarchy that has been running the country for decades?

Don't be silly. What would happen if the people actually ran things?!!?

Why, they'd have to face reality! They'd have to be responsible! They'd be unhappy!!! They'd be angry!! They'd demand change!!

Fortunately, the politicians are all on the payroll so it'll never happen.

6. everything liberal
Legislators, city officials, company presidents, everybody needs to hear your well-stated and concise opinions if you feel anything at all about it. They don't get input most of the time except from people who have rabies about their pet topic. Try giving them input from rational minds - they generally do weigh the mail, count the pieces, etc., rather than evaluate each and every well turned phrase.

However some days I am amazed they still let me fly -

The upside is that if you write to everybody all the time, you get quite a collection of pen pals going above and beyond the standard form letter responses, and that's from both sides of the aisle.

You really do have an opportunity to influence if you are a voice of reason and if you are consistent and frequent. You also have to follow up one in five letters with a request for a personal visit if a councilman or state legislator - a lot of times a cordial, brief simple social call lends significant weight to your written activism, but you have to try, and try a lot, and not just regarding topics that you are angry about.
