Thoughts on Air America and the Sirius/XM decision
I still don't know the details of what transpired to result in AAR going to XM. If there was a decidedly guilty party I'm almost sure that the story would have cope out. That said, I got in my car on Monday morning to begin a 900 mile trip. I drive long trips and satellite radio has been a god-send.

Like many of you I bought Sirius to listen to Air America on my trips. For the past 6 months I tries to listen to Sirius' other left channel and couldn't get into it. So you might imagine how  I was when I turned on AAR and got the other channel instead. Things only went downhill when their morning personality started bad mouthing AAR and their hosts. Now I'm getting really steamed, this guy has the balls to fire at another liberal enterprise!! Like we can afford to be taking cheap shots at one another.

At this point I have no choice and I listened to all their shows. Let me say Stephanie Miller sounds really good. After her, its just a steady downhill slide from there. Big Eddie has been oft discussed here so leave him aside for now. There's one woman whose name I intentionally choose not to remember who sounds like she has the most contrived New York accent I have ever heard. I know that's superficial but I could not get past the grating accent in order to listen to her content.

Then the topper, The Young Turks. What a load that show was. Why do they put a centrist talk show on a left channel. These days I find centrists more appalling than Republicans for some reason. But these guys were awful. The one Young Turd who sounds Don Rumsfeld was truly
a waste of my time.

I know that the variety of personalities are designed to reach different demographics, but I'm giving Sirius until the end of the year to come up with programming that deserves to be paid for.

1. Lynn Samuels....
you're talking about Lynn Samuels (grating New York accent).

She used to be on WABC 770Am out of New York before they purged the station of "liberals"...

Try to get over the accent. She really is "fun" to listen to.

When I first heard her on WABC I couldn't stand the accent either but she grew on me.

Give her chance, she's really personable.

5. She badmouths Randi as well.
She just comes off as a grating old biddy, harping on under a hair dryer in a Queens beauty shop. I tried to listen to her, catched her when Al was on a commercial, but she's just a bitch.
3 weeks ago she said that Randi Rhodes is a hack. REEEEEER!

2. As I've said in other threads . . .
I blame Sirius for the switch.

I bought Sirius for AAR, not for Sirius. Considering that receivers are so cheap and the subscriptions cost the same, I didn't have any compelling reason to stick with Sirius, so I went ahead and followed AAR to XM.

I think that if Sirius had chosen to forego NASCAR, Martha Stewart, etc. they could have used the money to secure the contract with AAR, but they decided that NASCAR was more valuable.

So be it. I'll stick with AAR.

3. I didn't know XM was in bed with Raytheon defense contractors.
Something called the "The Mobile Enhanced Situational Awareness Network" for the military?
