Auto Letter from Rep concerning DSM
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 03:43 PM by Tiggeroshii
The only people conteesting the authenticity of the DSM are the wingnuts at FOX and on the radio. No legitmate offical in England, or the US -including Intelligence officials and Tony Blair, have disputed the authenticity of these memos. With all this, however, it seems one of my Congressman's aid has been listening to too many wingnuts. Give me your input. I've thought about seending this to a newspaper or two, but it's kinda silly.

" Thank you for writing to me concerning media reports of the so-called
"Downing Street Memo.” I appreciate you sharing your views on this matter.

I have doubts as to the legitimacy of this memo and its reported contents.
This document was released by a reporter who claimed that, in order to protect
the identity of his source, he photocopied the originals, returned the original
documents to the source, retyped the documents from the photocopies, and finally
destroyed the photocopies.

Many members of Congress – both Democratic and Republican – were repeatedly
briefed by the administration on the intelligence being gathered before any
decision was made on the need for force in Iraq. When Congress voted to
authorize the use of force in October 2002, the administration made it clear
that this would only be used if diplomatic efforts and United Nations sanctions
failed. The administration continued to provide weekly briefings for members
before and after our troops moved to liberate the Iraqis from the Saddam Hussein
tyranny.

If any of the contents of this memo prove true over time, I am confident
the Congress will conduct its own investigation with due diligence and report
its findings. Thank you again for your thoughts on this matter, and please feel
free to contact me again in the future on this or any other issue.

Sincerely,

Jerry Lewis
Member of Congress

6. Wow. He's not dead. Sorry
I guess I assumed and I think I even heard it from someone else once upon a time,, but I looked him up and he's still alive. Born in 1926, that'dmake him what... 81? He probably still has twenty years lefton him.
