What did Wilson allegedly lie about?
This from a NYTimes editorial:

"Mr. Wilson has said he is confident that his concerns were circulated not only within the agency but also at the State Department and the office of Vice President Dick Cheney. Mr. Tenet, in his statement yesterday, confirmed that the Wilson findings had been given wide distribution, although he reported that Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney and other high officials had not been directly informed about them by the C.I.A."

I seem to remember from the time there was something else. Anyone know? This can't be the best they've got can it?

1. Wilson
First, I'm glad you wrote allegedly, because I believe it has been established that Wilson told the truth about the fact that no uranium had gone from Niger to Iraq--despited Bush's State of the Union "16 words" to the effect that Niger had sent uranium to Iraq.

4. Wilson just didn't deliver the news they wanted.
Therefore in their minds, he lied. Hmmmm.

5. Bob Somerby covered it in today's Howler & promises more tomorrow
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh071205.shtml

UNFORTUNATELY, ORIN WAS SEMI-RIGHT: Unfortunately, for all Rove’s misconduct (which may not be criminal), this isn’t a perfect case for liberals. Unfortunately, almost everything Deborah Orin said on last night’s Hardball is true, or at least semi-true. If Dems and libs want to deal with reality, they need to understand these facts. We’ll discuss them in more detail tomorrow. But here’s what Orin said:

ORIN (7/11/05): Democrats are always dreaming that they have got a new Watergate. This is not a new Watergate.
What has come out pretty clearly so far, I think, is—there is an issue of whether Karl Rove told the truth and the whole truth. But what`s more important is, it is clear that Joe Wilson didn`t tell the truth. We have a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report that says, on virtually every point that Joe Wilson made, starting from denying his wife had him sent on the trip, which turns out to be not true—

MATTHEWS: Right. She did.

ORIN: She did. And to claiming that he found that there was no ties with Iraq and that he reported that, which he did not report. He reported, if anything, the opposite.

To claiming that he reported there were forged documents, which was not true, because he never even saw the documents. So, Joe Wilson`s credibility is seriously in question. And what we now see is, what Karl Rove appears to have been doing was to be pointing out to Time magazine that Joe Wilson could not be trusted, rather than trying to get even with Joe Wilson.

And it is sort of fascinating, because, you know, for a year, the press reported Joe Wilson`s charges. And then, when the Senate Intelligence Committee said they were all false, it didn`t.

Orin is stretching a bit on various points. But unfortunately, much of what she said last night is true or semi-true (including that final comment about the press, by the way). On the newly-viral liberal web, it’s heresy to discuss this, of course. But Joseph Wilson has been a severely flawed messenger. If libs and Dems want to be smart, not viral, they’ll want to understand that fact. More on the topic tomorrow.

TOMORROW: Wilson’s warts. And oh yeah—why did you hear so little about those blanket waivers?

6. I just found the RW talking points, its in there

Or what they allege anyway. I remember the commission report and being furious about it. Wilson was on all the shows at the time too. Maybe Fitzgerald will finally get the truth on this.

7. They also claim:
1. That Wilson said that Cheney sent him on the mission to Niger

(The Repukes are just twisting Wilson's words here)

2. That there was "plenty-o-evidence" that the Iraqis were trying to do a uranium deal so Wilson lied about that.

(More bullshit)

3. They claim that Wilson lied about seeing forged documents.

(Wilson was told about the existence of forged documents but never saw any -- More Republican damage control)

See this: <http://www.yuricareport.com/Impeachment/WilsonDefendsHimselfInLtrToSenate.html#anchor461370>

Bill Safire was the Republican hod-carrier in trying to smear Wilson.

The interesting thing to remember is that immediately after Wilson's article, the WH conceded that the stuff about the uranium buy shouldn't have been in Bush's State of the Union speech. And we never found any nuke program in Iraq. It was all bullshit.

8. What of the claim...
...that Iraq aready had tons of yellowcake, sitting unused in a bunker for years, which has disappeared since the invasion?

Is there a solid source for that claim? I've only seen it mentioned in discussion, unattributed. If it is true, it would be pretty silly for them to be so anxious to buy more.

10. Supposedly the IAEA had it all locked up, inspected and sealed
prior to the war and, lo and behold, the war breaks out and, voila, it disappeared. At least that's what I heard.

Lots of stuff disappeared after the invasion, you may recall. We only had enough troops to guard the Oil Ministry.

9. Cheney Asked the CIA
to investigate the yellow-cake from Niger. CIA talked to Plame, she suggested her husband. She arranged the meeting of her bosses and her husband, introduced them and left the room. Because of Joe Wilson's establish and distinguished career, he was perfect for the job.

So in effect, Cheney sent Joe Wilson to Niger.....
