There won't be a Draft! Here's why |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 01:26 AM by sleipnir
I'm kinda sick of all the DU talk about the impending "draft" now that Rummy's war isn't going so well and they'll need soldiers for the next folly. Let's put an end to in right now, here why. Everyone is still forgetting the ~300,000 Reserve/NG troops still in America. That's right, we still have a lot of people to commit, if they want. We've only got about 25,000 Reserve/NG on the ground in Iraq right now.
The reason that they failed to initiate a massive "call-up" during Vietnam was because LBJ was afraid of angering the then more middle class NG. I strongly believe * gives a sh!t about the common working man (which is now the median NG recruit) and is more worried about angering rich, elite parents who are having their kids drafted to war. Or really the upper-middle class who can't really afford to send "Jimmy" to school in England to avoid the draft. There would be elitist exceptions like Vietnam, but not at the same level. Too much information control now.
So, no draft, look to see the Reserve/NG called up, much less profile than a draft and they're already indoctrinated into the military mindset (which is critical.)
But, comments are always appreciated.
Edit-added adjective "massive"

2. LBJ was a flying asshole and he did call up the reserves |
|
I know because I served onboard with the called-up reserves. So your wrong on that point. Also, LBJ had a draft starting in '65 to fuck over people from working class background like myself, so he didn't need to call up as many reserves as that piece of shit Bush is doing.
There are many more reserves in Iraq than 25K, and less than the 300K overall you state, which is why the Bushistats are in deep shit when it comes to rotating troops.
LBJ had a draft and called up the reserves because we were fighting communism and faced an imminent nuclear holocaust with the super power USSR. Chimpy Bush doesn't need a draft after invading the Flintstones in Iraq and bouncing the rubble around.

3. He Might Draft the Unemployed |

300,000 reserves aren't that many. At the rate things are going, he'll need all of them to hold Iraq, and how many more for his upcoming invasion of Iran?

And I think Syria has been giving Georgie the evil eye with that Guantanamo "spy ring".
And he had the gall to say in the Fox News "love fest" the other day that he is a man of peace.
That's newspeak for ya!

They're signing up for recruitment, that's what the story is. The military is meeting their goals because, in so many words, the ecomony is so crappy, the Armed Forces are the only ones hiring. Heard this version of the "spin" it on CNN the other day. Interesting to say the least.
