Wie advances (golf) but not all are happy about it
LEBANON (O.) - It's another tournament, another overflowing gallery and media horde focused on Michelle Wie.

Wie, 15, is at the men's Amateur Public Links at Shaker Run Golf Club this week to try to qualify for the Masters. She took another step yesterday by advancing to match play with an 8-over par 148 in two days of stroke play.

...

The attention Wie receives wherever she goes is coupled with debate. Whether she plays in LPGA events or competes against men, someone speaks out in protest. Yesterday it was APL participant Danny Green of Jackson, Tenn., who had the low score of the day, a 65.

...

"Personally, I don't think she should be here," Green said. "I think she should play in the women's tournaments because they don't let the men play in the women's tournaments."

1. if they don't like it, they should stop losing to her
"I think she should play in the women's tournaments because they don't let the men play in the women's tournaments."

Oh, you're killing me with your impeccable logic, Danny Green.

2. Wie is an athletic Mozart
Why won't they just shut up and just listen to the music? I had a chance to see her play recently at the LPGA tournament and witnessed two birdie putts. She handles herself with a poise and class impressive at any age. Professional sports, any sport, is about competition. Considering that the 15 year old came in second at a woman's major recently shows that she can compete at the highest levels of women's golf already at age 15. Athletes are inspired by challenges. It's a challenge to overcome playing with men that motivates her because she can actually compete with them. She missed the cut last week at a PGA tournament by only 2 strokes. There were many men who missed it by more. She should play in any tournament as long as she is competitive. Merit not gender should be the basis in all sports. She won't be in the MAsters next year but considering how close she already is at 15 it's a matter of when not if. Get used to it guys.

8. She's Going To Be Great, For Sure
Her only shortcoming at this point, is that she hasn't learned to grind it out when the shots aren't doing what she imagines beforehand.

The greats always figure out how to avoid bogeys, as well as make birdies. That's why they're great.

She has learned only the latter so far, but she'll learn to have a bad shot not make the wheels fall off. When she does, she's going to be incredibly good. (Not that she's not close to it now!)

5. i'm of the opinion that michelle should win a few tourneys in the lpga..
an 8-over par for two rounds, while impressive for a 15 year old, is not going to cut it at the Masters. She should concentrate on winning in the LPGA before she tries to successfully compete in the mens tournaments.

6. Boo Hoo, Danny Green
If she's better than you, than she's better than you. What a crybaby.

She made the match play part because she played better than the 60% who didn't. So, OBVIOUSLY, Dannyboy, she BELONGS THERE!

10. Ummm....in this case, he is "better" than her...by a whopping 10 strokes..
....still he should keep his mouth shut, IMO.

12. But, He Hasn't Played Her Yet
He's not 10 strokes better than her, anymore. Those scores are wiped away. It's now match play.

Besides, LOTS & LOTS of men went home! She didn't have to. He's obviously a small minded buffoon, because is she's good enough to make the match play portion, then she's good enough.

The ban on men in women's events is intended to keep the playing field even due to the fact that the finest men players hit it significantly farther than the best women players. It would be unfair to let men play in any women's event they want.

But, if she's competing UP, then there is no issue at all.

And, 10 strokes after 2 rounds is hardly insurmountable, even if those scores counted. Ask Sergio Garcia.

9. If she can cut it with the boys,
she should be allowed to play with the boys. If she can't, then she shouldn't.

End of story. And it sounds like Danny Green is eating sour grapes and doesn't like it. "Waaaahh! That mean girlie beat me! Waaaahh!"

Maybe he should practice more and whine less.
