it's not illegal to receive the information. The crime is at the administration's end.

Novak and others were conduits for the smear campaign.

5. He treated Rove with the same fealty he treated his country. None at all. |
|
In other words, he talked, the first chance he got, in order to get out from under the special prosecutor's thumb. He's not a hero for journalism, and he's not even a hero for the "other side". He's just self interested prick. And going to jail was not in his own best interest.

I agree with this post. Novak went into the Special Counsel's office and told Fitzgerald everything he knew ... then he repeated it all to the Grand Jury.
That's why for two years Novak has been so nonchalant about this scandal ... because he is totally in the clear.

7. Because He Didn't Break The Law |
|
The law is specific that it's illegal for a gov't official to leak the name, but not illegal for a reporter to print it.
Now, if he refused to give his source up, he would be in the same boat as Miller. So, obviously, he talked. The Professor

That would still be sealed as all grand jury testimony is supposed to be. But, since he put Miller in jail, and Cooper was about to go until he talked, logic would lead us to the conclusion that Novak spilled the beans.
But, it's doubtful anyone knows what he said. Fitzgerald has been known for his career to run a leak free ship. The Professor

15. Refused A Court Order To Testify |
|
She can't be in there for revealing a name, since she never wrote a story mentioning Ms. Plame.
She's there because a judge ORDERED her to testify before a grand jury and she refused. That's contempt of court. Cooper relented and he stayed out. The Professor

11. Supposedly He Sang, Cleared His Sources of Blame |
|
There are threads around with links saying that he testified that the word "(CIA) operative" was HIS word, NOT the word of his sources, and that he contacted the CIA to find out what her status was, which he didn't know at the time. Well, alRIGHTy then---everybody's off the hook. Also, there was a post somewhere saying that the reason the OTHER journalists became involved was that the S.P. was trying to substantiate or NOT what NOVAKula said.
