Remember the republicans howling about a $.50/gal gas tax
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 10:51 AM by Inland
that would have raised the price of a gallon of gas at the pump (at the time it was proposed) to a ridiculous and unbearable...$1.51? And how Kerry was lambasted during the campaign for supposedly endorsing the idea, which, if enacted during 2004, would have raised prices to the unimaginable sum of.....$2.26, which is now BELOW the national average price at the pump?

The opportunity to ween this country off of gasoline was wasted too many times, and now we are just paying the price that the oil producers demand.

1. It used to be that the Saudis would keep the price of oil in check out of
fear that the world would seek alternative sources of energy. Now that we're addicted (and we've got an oil cartel running the US government), it seems unlikely they're as interested in lowering the prices.

Average Unlead Gallon of Gas at the end of the Clinton Administration was somewhere around $1.50 and the Right Wing was screaming bloody murder about Clinton not doing anything about it. Now gas is $2.50 and chirp chirp.

In Washington - the Right Wing is all up in arms about a 5 cents/gallon gas tax that squeaked through the legislature after the gas tax hadn't increases in something like 20 years - even though gas itself has gone up by about a dollar in the past couple of years.

5. Bush ran in 2000 on "opening the spigots" to lower prices
I still remember him twisting his wrists over imaginary spigots, the dope.

3. I've started taking the bus to work and walking to the grocery store.
i buy no more than $10 worth of gas a week because i will only drive the car when absolutely necessary.

i hope that if anything good comes of these insanely high gas prices, it's that more people start riding their bikes, walking and using public transportation.. all of these things will save people money and help the environment.

when i'm out walking i like to point and laugh at the gas guzzling Hummers that drive by.. i'll bet they're paying $60 a week to fill up. heh.. serves 'em right.

4. Killed John Anderson in 1980 too
A sensible idea then. I actually registered as a Repuke for the Iowa caucuses to vote for him. He went down in flames, of course.

6. Since it's chimp's problem, the rw says "Our President isn't responsible
for the price of gas!" just like the economy and everything else thats cocked up.
