OMG, Republicans are in a HUGE dilemma - Rove Runs the party!!!
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 11:22 AM by jsamuel
I just realized, Rove runs the Republican party!

You can tell by the "talking points" memo that was sent out. It is meant to defend him. However, based on the evidence it would be better (politically) for them to distance themselves from him. But they don't, instead they follow the talking points that he made up himself.

They must be freaking out!

The only ones that have been repeating the talking points are like Newt and Mehlman... and other talking heads on the "news" channels.

1. Fitz singlehandedly took down the IL GOP
and because Rove is the National GOP's brain (not just Bush's brain), Fitz is going to take down the entire GOP singlehandedly.

8. Can you say some more about this guy. I'd value your opinion as
an IL/Chicago (I think) guy.

He seems like the real deal. He seems to thrive on competition. He seems to be both a "bulldog" and patient at the same time.l

Does he hold a grudge? I ask because he was burned when he came to DC a while ago to bust the Muslim charities (funding you know who). They shredded their records before his raid.

Do you think, regardless of affiliation, that he's independent enough, aggressive enough, and patriotic enough to pull down the house of cards?

Just askin'

would be no criminal action.

He ended up indicting the governor of Illinois, a member of his own party. His actions brought down the state party and paved the way for Obama to be elected.

18. For national security, no sacrifice is too great
And, no deaths to costly.

Oh yes, they would kill to stay in power. They believe they are ordained. They believe they must create a nation, and to defend their creation, deaths of innocents is not too high a price.

Just like Pearl Harbor. Civilian deaths are...no big deal, as long as it remains a secret, a "national security secret"

In the end, in building their empire, these acts are seen as, believe it or not, in the interest of the greater good. They'll kill a few of us, to take care of all of us.

National security rides easily over all our rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. And it always will, and the wars will never end. That's the plan.

What I don't get is how so many people don't see it. It's not like they haven't "allowed it to happen" before.

26. Well, the IL GOP fell down with minimal pushing.
Ryan was indicted after he left office.

I guess the analogy still holds: the lies, crimes and incompetence running through the adminstration makes it weak long before the prosecution comes to fruition.

because he was going to be indicted.

The entire IL GOP suffered the consequences of the licenses for bribes scandal.

31. What do you mean Fitz brought down the IL GOP?
I haven't heard much about him and don't remember hearing about that.

One thing that is VERY different about this investigation, no leaks. Remember Starr? We knew everything the GJ was doing, who it was calling, what it was asking, what "crimes" it was investigating. I remember reading his report and thinking "nothing new here, I knew all this."

It seems, by what little we have seen, (Cooper, Miller and the court orders, much of them redacted) that there is a game afoot. Until the last couple of weeks I thought the GJ would do nothing. If it is uncovering good stuff I'm surprised Bush hasn't made a move to get rid of Fitz. (Remember Cox and the first Clinton prosecutor whoes name escapes me right now.)

35. There was a scandal that Fitz investigated
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 11:42 AM by Walt Starr
The state government was giving away truck driver licenses to unqualified drivers in return for bribes from the companies wanting the licensed drivers. One unqualified driver who received a license this way ended up killing an entire family when he wrecked into them and their family vehicle went up in flames.

An entire family burned alive over money given to state officials to license unqualified truck drivers.

Fitz was put on the case. George Ryan, the governor at the time, chose not to run for re-election. Just after he left office, he was indicted.

The Illinois GOP has not been the same since as every Republican is tainted with the smell of the family burned alive.

39. Perhaps it is strongly positive that there have been no leaks
in this investigation. The purpose is to indict - not to play politics - so no need for leaks. Quiet and effective - that would be great.

11. And maybe, just maybe...
If his power was pervasive enough, and this scandal big enough, it sounds just a little bit less crazy to entertain the notion the London bombings could maybe, possibly, have any link to

to the crazy mf's running this most powerful, corrupt nation earth

Might not be true

But it's a tad less crazy sounding, as compared to a senior adviser outing a CIA agent, and then the whole friggin admin defending the action.

Who's crazy?

THEM fuckers are crazy. That's who.

will slime and smear them.

By the way, has John McCain said a peep about this? I sure haven't heard it.

I posted this yesterday and it wasn't exactly appreciated but I think it is true:

"Washington, D.C.: What odds would you give at this point that this will lead to Rove's firing?

Dana Milbank: My predictions are often comically off, but here goes: This is Karl Rove's town, and the rest of us -- President Bush included -- are just living in it. "

The Republicans wont be shamed into cutting Rove loose. He knows where all the bodies are buried because HE put them there.

Fitzgerald is going to have to take care of Rove.

Hopefully, we can use the scandal to emphasize the "culture of corruption" the Republicans live by.

We need to keep turning the heat up. I'd love to be proven wrong but I'd prefer to see Rove "frog-marched out of the White House" before Bush can fire him.

edit to add - Rove will be fired if Rove decides he needs to be fired - but that doesn't mean we stop screaming for Bush to fire him.

37. As much as I despise John Ashcroft, I found his illness very timely.
He recovered and now notice he has disappeared from sight and the scandal. He would have made a great talking head for Fox like Newt. Ol John knew what was coming when he bowed out of the investigation and almost died (avoiding questions when the heat was first being felt).

33. Bloomberg says McCain and Frist declined to comment when asked
yesterday... "McCain, of Arizona, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee declined to comment when asked about Rove yesterday. Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, the No. 3 Republican in the Senate, said he continued to support the presidential adviser."

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aPAumGLz.W9M&refer=top_world_news

I think a lot of them want to avoid getting shit on their shoes.

Would be interesting to know what McCain is thinking considering what Rove did to him.
