Would you trade a Rove investigation for a moderate on the SCOTUS? |
|
If some behind the scenes deal could be struck in which the Dems, in exchange for a moderate appointment to the Court, would cease and desist any pressure on the Plame investigation....
would you take the deal?
Or would you stand on principle and pursue both the Plame investigation AND a moderate on the court knowing you might lose on both?
Or do you think there's enough Dem power or backbone to win on both?

12. Oh - Moot point. The Rove thing is a criminal issue. Most likely. |
|
How would that work exactly? You would say give us a progressive on SCOTUS and we will stop the investigation? Anyway I would doubt that the GOP would make that choice. As much as they like Rove's expertise the elites would never give that up. And from all accounts - Rove will survive 1) if it is not deemed criminal 2) if his people don't throw him to the dogs in an attempt to save themselves come mid-term elections.

The odds that we might actually get somewhere with the Plame investigation is too great to throw away just for a "moderate" Republican.

I'd put Rove behind bars and then lock-down the legislative sesson in the Senate with delaying tactics.
With the Bu$h administration, none of the laws that will come from this sesson will be good for our country anyway.
Lock it down until Bu$h/Cheney are impeached, convicted and jailed.

will increase the odds of a moderate on SCOTUS.

6. I've wondered that myself - but I'm not certain about the connection. |
|
I'm not at all certain that even a full blown investigation would lead the Bushists to nominate a moderate.

10. Justice requires that we demand both. |
|
The Court has been highly conservative most of its history, with the exception of the some years in the 30s, the 60s, and the early 70s.
All who value personal liberties (privacy, due process, equal protection, etc.) cannot bargain away this point. It is plainly central to liberalism and progressivism in America.
Anyone who values justice also cannot knowingly allow a crime to go unprosecuted. That would be rewriting the law on the fly, for our convenience, rather than for any moral or ethical or legal principle.

the Dem leadership needs to find more backbone & demand both.
The rove traitor needs to be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Most Americans want a moderate on the Supreme court.
If the democrats want to gain support, they need to remember that their purpose is to represent people not the corporatists who have usurped power in this country.
