WH and Congress defer to a criminal investigation re:leaks of CIA info?
Since when? If there is even a HINT that someone in the white house leaked even unclassified information that impacted national security, wouldn't the president and congress investigate the next day? Wouldn't every staffer from the Chief of Staff to the WH mess hall have to come into the office of somebody important and answer questions and to sign a statement or something? But no, we have to let the court system take a couple of years and put up with people taking the fifth, and then the president and congress will only know who the leaker is (snicker) unless there is a criminal charge and conviction.

I can't believe the president is refusing to even assure the nation that his WH is secure from traitors until AFTER the grand jury is either closed or issues indictments--now two years pending.

I can't believe that we have to wait until the outcome of a years long criminal process before the president and congress even investigate whether the WH staff is leaking national security information.

I can't believe that neither the president nor congress are SO DETERMINED TO NOT KNOW THE TRUTH that they are waiting to see WHO THE USA CATCHES before even ASKING the WH staff what the deal is.

1. Yeah. Remember Cox's Clinton and the Chinese investigation prompted by
charges by the rightwing radio yakkers and originating with Robert Hanssen and his Opus Dei buddy, Robert Novak?

2. Actually, no.
But I assume that no president in history has been less interested in finding out who in the WH is a leak--either because he already knows or like any good crime boss, doesn't want to know.

3. That leaves a lot of time for who knows how many
more state secrets to fly the coop? We've had one other one we know of and that's the fact that we broke the Iranian communications code and it was leaked to Chalabi who in turn gave the info to Iran.
Was this another one of Rove's leaks?

4. Not exactly acting like the leaks are a urgent huge problem, are they?

Which means a) they don't care about national security or b) they understand that the leaker has stopped. And it can't be b, can it, because nobody has ANY IDEA where this info came from, none at all.

7. Even Tim "Russet" (aka Mr. Potatohead) acknowledged that
the Republicans would have already begun hearings on this if it had happened in a Democratic administration. Heard him say that on the Today Show this week.

9. It's really quite simple
They're republicans and think they're above the law. If Bush or any of them goes down it'll look bad on them as well. So they can't get caught. 2006 midterms are coming pretty closely. That's what it's all about. They can't stop all of their plans and lose any power. If this was a democratic president they would've been gone LONG ago.
