"Nevada's chapter of the Young Republicans has basically imploded"
Nevada's chapter of the Young Republicans has basically imploded, leaving its chairman with up to $25,000 in personal debt and allegations that he mishandled money.

All but three people have resigned from the statewide group, but the fallout could prove increasingly embarrassing to the entire state Republican Party.

Today, the chairman of the group, Reno resident Nathan Taylor, plans to hold a press conference attacking three of the state's party leaders -- Sen. John Ensign, Rep. Jim Gibbons and Rep. Jon Porter.

Taylor argues that the state's Republican delegation should have helped him fund the national Young Republican convention held last week at Mandalay Bay.

4. Truly absurd ...

I read this story looking for some particular point worthy of comment, but the whole damn thing is one long stream of stupidity, everything from the person "overseeing the books" writing of "debits owed" to Nathan Taylor, the guy at the center of this bizarre disaster, whining like a 12-year old boy every damn thing.

They all deserve each other.

"...quit his food service job..." ("You want fries with that?")

Hmmmm...now $25K is sorta unaccounted for? I can see why he quit flipping burgers part time...25K would be more than he could expect to make in the next few years in his previous "career".

This begs the question: Where are the Freeper "internet fraWd detection units" on this asshat?

30. Here's the REAL story: Taylor WASTED all the money, so everyone left....
...when their efforts to stop him were fruitless.
They went to some lengths to get this fool REMOVED;
when that failed, they walked away and left him neck-deep in his own mess.

ORIGINAL COMPLAINT:
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2005/Feb-16-Wed-2005/news/25877618.html
SNIP:
Nevada's national committeeman for Young Republicans filed a criminal complaint Monday with the Reno Police Department alleging Nathan Taylor received more than $25,000 in registration fees and donations through his corporation, YRNC 2005, and spent almost all of it in the past year for personal use.

Snip:
"The reason we turned this into the Reno police is because from the bank statement we have in hand, we're afraid this corporate account has turned into his personal slush fund," said Joe Brezny, Nevada's Young Republican National Committeeman, who filed the criminal complaint.

Reno police spokesman Lt. Ron Donnelly said the case will be turned over to the department's fraud unit. The sergeant in that unit was unavailable late Tuesday for comment.

snip:
The complaint also includes a bank statement showing withdrawals from the YRNC 2005 account at Bully's bar in Carson City, at a PF Chang's restaurant, at Shell Oil, at Mandalay Bay and twice for $200 in cash during a 30-day period.

Charges later dropped: (mass exodus followed)

"Representatives of the congressional delegation remained mum on the press conference, with Porter campaign consultant Mike Slanker simply saying, "I wish him (Taylor) well in his future after politics."

FUTURE OF MARRIAGE PANEL:
The issue regarding the FUTURE OF MARRIAGE in America has become a hot topic over the past couple years. This panel will offer unique perspectives from individuals who have taken up this fight across the United States. We hope to provide members with an opportunity to hear from both sides on this issue. There will be discussions on legislation, activism and political idealism. All of our panels will be interactive, allowing for participants to ask questions of panelists.

SOCIAL SECURITY PANEL:
With SOCIAL SECURITY being a priority for President Bush and his Administration we felt it incumbent upon us to offer a frank discussion on the topic. We will be featuring National Speakers who have stepped up to assist in creating a strong dialogue on the Social Security topic. We will be announcing our participants in this panel soon, who will be traveling from all across the country to participate in this discussion. All of our panels will be interactive, allowing for participants to ask questions of panelists.

VEGAS NIGHT:
YRNC 2005 has offered this night for attendees to explore the lights of Las Vegas on their own. Many of you have never been to Las Vegas and have not had the opportunity to see all the City of Las Vegas has to offer. With dozens of hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, hundreds of bars and clubs, attendees will not have a problem finding a place in which to enjoy all Las Vegas has to offer!

Where to start? Las Vegas just screams "family values" with prominently placed billboards on all streets screaming, "Live Nude Girls in your room" "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". I love the fact that their menu has no vegetarian options. What is that shit about semi-boneless chicken - is that to cover their asses for potential lawsuits when one of them chokes on a bone? "attendees will not have a problem finding a place in which to enjoy all Las Vegas has to offer!?" - like lap dances and legal prostitution. bwah hah hah

having to resign after trying to shake down a NJ political candidate gives me the creeping suspicion that a lot of these Young Republicans are in it solely for the potenetial payday.

God knows they aren't any more interested in fighting Bush's wars than the rest of us, though they love to catapult the propoganda.

52. Hmmm, they privatize the event, and it goes belly up? Sounds like
the shit is 'trickling down' there Nathan.

Members of the group later apologized and dropped the charges, citing an August 2004 letter from the chairman of the Young Republican National Federation that gave Taylor authority to create a company to manage the convention.

By doing do, the Young Republican national group was released from financial liability for the convention, handing over all responsibilities to Taylor.

But within days after dropping the charges against Taylor, all but three members of the state Young Republican group resigned, saying they were convinced the convention would turn up short of money.

So, you privatize the event, spend all the money as your personal cash, whine that your party is abandoning you by not writing you checks for $25,000 - obviously, you learned Republicanism well!

BTW, anyone catch the similar implosion of the New Jersey
http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcnk3ZjczN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXkzJmZnYmVsN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2NzIyNjUzJnlyaXJ5N2Y3MTdmN3ZxZWVFRXl5Mg==
and
http://politicsnj.com/njcrjuly2005.htm

Looks like the grassroots decided to ask for some cashola in return for help, got his ass up on his shoulders and wound up resigning.

Today's Young Republican = " Where's my payoff !?! "

53. OK, who infiltrated the event and ate $25,000 in appetizers?

Too bad this isn't the "good old days" in Vegas when the Hotel would teach you a lesson regarding not paying your debts...

59. This is the same Convention where they were deriding the
Young Dem Convention for being on the cheap so to speak since young Dems were staying in low budget hotels without the great menu boasted by the young Rethugs.

I don't have the article at hand but remember the disdain expressed against the Young Dem Convention plans when compared to the Young Rethugs.

64. Let's see what we have here...
Some repiglican douche creates a corporate account to pay for Young Repiglican party expenses in Las Vegas (which goes towards booze, hookers, gambling $$, etc.), then the douche-for-brains who creates this account then spends the money on his OWN booze, hookers and gambling $$, gets CAUGHT for it, then cries out that he wants a government handout from his precious repuglican leaders to pay it off, gets told by the politicians, "Sorry, kid", then tries to pin the blane on somebody else.

Yup. That's Republican values for you.
