Military Voices Against Endless War

Over Memorial Day Weekend 2005, nearly 1,000 people attended the historic "Military Voices Against Endless War" events in Los Angeles (May 28) and Berkeley (May 29) featuring veterans of the Iraq War, military family members of service persons killed in Iraq, and military resisters.

1. the military knows firsthand
The military knows firsthand that these "armchair generals" in the White House are complete quacks. The neocon cryptofascists were told they were wrong both morally and tactically and didn't listen, and worse yet had the "power" to ram their criminal agenda through anyway. The military needs veto power to resist being sent to wars it knows are futile and wrong, and protection against micromanagement. Obviously, it can't have full independence as a fourth branch of government, as the civilian commander-in-chief must still have the over-arching policy say-so. Active initiation of foreign/domestic military action, no. Veto power, yes.

Furthermore, these wars are undeclared, which should already be criminal under US law. The law may not say so now, but it should say so in the future if not.

Finally, there's a reason the things we're hearing about are all videotaped and photographed from inside the prisons and the helicopter cockpits despite bombing journalists etc. The military does in fact have a conscience. It's high time we curtailed presidential powers so they can no longer abuse the conscience and integrity of our soldiers and set them up to be the victims of the policies corrupt presidents institute as both casualties and war criminals.
