I swear if a sensible, anti-war Republican ran I'd vote for him/her |
|
rather than vote for a democrat who supports senseless war and kisses bush's ass or tries to get along with the enemies of america.
and i mean it democratic leaders, and i know some of you are reading. i'm just one schmuck who's always voted democrat, but i could be swayed at this point in our history. mark my words, i ain't the only one.

1. A sensible, anti-war repug would be forced to leave the party and |
|
become independant or democratic. It is so all about being re elected. The White House is forcing out all those who don't follow their agenda lock and step. I would like a total purge. Starting with Norm Coleman.

their so called base, have a strangle hold on them now. Even though they may only represent a minority (25%?) of the Party, they seem to have the money and the clout to dictate the party policies. The "moderates" have been silenced, or bullied, and are powerless.
No, as a life long Independent, I will not vote for a Party like that.

I dont care what Republicans say, they are liars and voting for them is death to America.
I WILL NEVER VOTE REPUBLICAN. EVER!
Although I do see your point about spineless dems such as Biden.

Nixon ran as a sensible, anti-war republican.
You might find a rose growing in a field of manure, but generally all you find is shit.

You'd vote for a candidate who's position you agree with. Makes sense to me. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

|
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:54 AM by LSK
He says has the same position as you as far as the war.
Meanwhile as a republican he stands for
- tax cuts for the rich - pro corporation - pro spending - anti National Health Care - anti gay - anti abortion - anti environment - pro religion and state
You cant vote on one issue. Because all the other issues will bite you in the ass.
If he were with you on most issues, he would be a democrat.

11. if this imaginary repub. fought against all the above mentioned things |
|
he'd be a democrat, but he could be a republican with guts, who wants what's good for his country instead of his party.
at this point in time, he is an imaginary creature.

I'm just saying that if you found a republican candidate who was anti war and represented your views - why not vote for him.
If a candidate was all the things you mentioned above, well, he wouldn't represent my views (I don't know what you mean by pro religion and state).

9. The candidate may agree with you on some points but never forget |
|
he is part of a group that is antithetical to everything a Dem would hold near and dear to their heart. He may talk the talk but he would never, ever be allowed to walk the walk as long as he is a repug. They would withhold funding, spread lies about him, attack his family, etc. until he either is defeated or back in the fold. I will never vote for a republican until a seismic change takes place within the party and those events take at least 20-30 years to occur (and then it would take another 50-60 years for me to forgive them for what they have done to this country). If he is willing to stand up and be named as a repug then he has sold his soul to the devil no matter what his personal views and opinions might be.

10. It's all about the numbers. |

The real power is in the committees and the house and senate leadership postitions. I'd rather have a dozen DINOs and control of the committees and what comes up for a vote on the floor then a dozen republicans who would vote with us.

12. On an emotional level |

I understand what you're saying, Mo. I'm so frustrated with some who call themselves Dems that I think my head's going to explode.
In my congressional district we have a Dem who thinks the answer to the quagmire is to train the Iraqi security forces to take over. Where have I heard that before? He's running against a kiss-ass Repug. The Repug will win, of course, in spite of anything I could do.
But it's damn discouraging being expected to support people who are going to just keep sending our young men and women to die, and perpetrating the deaths of innocent Iraq citizens so Halliburton can get even wealthier. I don't care if they have the best of intentions.
I've been told I should work for the local Dems. Just don't have the stomach for it anymore. I'm tired of the same old, same old, hoping for a different outcome.

to make sure that Bernie Sanders gets elected to the Senate for Jeffords seat!
On the topic though, there was a time I might have voted for someone like Jim Leach in Iowa (who is a pretty moderate Republican who's voted against the war, etc.), but I think now is the time not to vote for any Republican at all, regardless of how decent a person they might be. They shouldn't keep themselves in a party with the Delays still in charge who will leave no stone unturned to force all of them to do their bidding on important votes. Even Leach voted for the impeachment of Clinton I think. When you see those important votes and how these "moderates" vote, that's where you know their arms are being twisted, and that's why you should say to them in effect, "I'd vote for you for you as a person, but I will never vote for you as a Republican. Leave the party NOW!"

15. A "sensible, anti-war Republican" |

I can find just three things wrong with that formulation, so it's entirely possible. Would said Republican come on the scene riding a griffen, a centaur or a chimera?

17. I agree in principle with the sentiment |

that one should put one's country over party. And I am not opposed to voting for a Republican. But right now I think that the anti-environment stance of the Republican party is what would stop me overall. Voting for clean air and water and a happy future aboard our Planet Earth is of paramount importance to me. Right now the Republicans appear to be the party that doesn't believe in science, i.e. global warming. :eyes:
