6. This program is not a Pacifica news program...
but a show that focus of the unseen and over looked
patterns of history.

I like this show but would not suggest that anyone
judge Pacifica as a network by it contents. It is
an independent production.

From this shows website:

http://www.gunsandbutter.net/

"Guns & Butter" investigates the relationships among capitalism, militarism and politics. Maintaining a radical perspective in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, "Guns & Butter" reports on who wins and who loses when the economic resources of civil society are diverted toward global corporatization, war, and the furtherance of a national security state.

7. Pacifica IS Progressive Radio...
The marvel of my Studio link internet radio is I can pop on the Pacifica stations...KFPA, KFPK and WBAI. They're still true to the principals of open access to the airwaves and give voice to a wide range of alternative voices.

I prefer to listen to Pacifica over NPR and even AAR. I always wished they had built a station in Chicago.

13. Yes. The best of the best.
The Pacifica network not only defines progressive radio, it was the original public radio. And it remains truly independent - despite many attempts over the years to control it from the outside (and much resultant internal squabbling) Pacifica has managed to retain some real independence. The best source of independent, left-of-the dial investigative reporting out there. Most of the programs are independently produced by the programmers.

I've been listening to KPFK Los Angeles since I was in college and cherish it.

Credible? Absoulutely.

15. You should read this book about Pacifica's history:
http://www.temple.edu/tempress/titles/1389_reg.html

or see this documentary:

http://www.newsreel.org/nav/title.asp?tc=CN0052

Democracy Now! should be seen or heard every day by everyone who claims to be progressive:

www.democracynow.org

We on the Left really should do all we can to support this valuable treasure.

The archives of the network alone are a genuine treasure of history:

http://www.pacificaradioarchives.org/

but the work the living network does is crucial to keeping America's airwaves open to dissent and creative, original thinking.

Do all you can to tune into and support Pacifica!

16. It depends...
It depends on the host, and it depends on the programming. I used to volunteer at WBAI (the NYC Pacifica station). Keep in mind that all the stations also use independently-produced material, not just their own. That adds another variable.

Some things were solid, some things were a bit out on a limb, sometimes, things were just wrong. You can't judge just by the station, you have to get a feel for how reliable the different people involved are.

23. Pacifica kicks ass--Amy Goodman scares even democrats
with real questions. She made Howard Dean run away, and pissed off Carol Mosley Braun and Bill Clinton by asking simple questions about issues and not excepting the empty talking points.

And she covers the stuff we talk about here.

Democracy Now is the best hour of radio every day that it's on the air.

Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 03:10 PM by K-W
She isn't afraid of sounding stupid, or making a mistake, or pissing off someone famous. Which are among the many fears that allow mainstream journalists to be manipulated.

She knows that she has ever right in the world to ask any question she wants of anyone and she wont apologize for it.

34. new timetable
http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page7903.asp

I will now try to give the House as much information as I can. Some of it is already well-known. There were four explosions. Three took place on underground trains - one between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street; one between Russell Square and Kings Cross; one in a train at Edgware Road station. All of these took place within 50 seconds of each other at 8.50 a.m.

The other explosion was on the No.30 bus at Upper Woburn Place at 9.47 a.m.

The timing of the Tube explosions was designed to be at the peak of the rush hour and thus to cause maximum death and injury.

43. Absolutely. I listened live as they covered the coup in Haiti,
as the U.S. forced Aristide onto a plane.

They shortly had interviews with members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

I can't speak for every program, but Pacifica in general has a sterling reputation for truth.

KPFT is a great station again, had a rough patch but the mighty 90 is back.

Pacifica news is the best, you can trust it. No commericals, all listerner sponsered.
